listed on Craigs list-not selling :(

I recently placed 2 household items on Craigslist for sale. Sadly, my junk (I mean my valuable heirlooms) have not even had a nibble. I have had things sell before so I think my Craigslist is pretty active.Now what?? Should I give it a few months and try again? FYI: 1 item was a piece of exercise equiment and the other, custom made drapery treatments. Thanks and sorry if too off-topic.

Both are tough sells. Exercise eqp is probably the #1 discarded item.

Custom drapes --- they have to fit their window(s), it has to be the same number of windows, they have to like them and need them.

Check ebay and see what your items are selling for and then try listing on CL at a comparable price. We've sold exercise equipment on CL and if it is a top-of-the-line brand it should eventually sell, but first check CL to see if there are several others listed. If there are many of the same items up for sale on CL, your chances of selling it are slim.....unless you put a really low price on it. I recently considered selling a crib mattress that was rarely used, but after seeing there were 1 1/2 pages of crib mattresses on CL I ended up donating it.
I've found with CL that you need to keep relisting. I will sometimes take it off for a week or so, but I usually just keep the ad going.

You may be able to sell the curtains on ebay, but again, check the Completed Listings for actual sale prices.

Karin - I don't pot anything. Before I place my ad, I divide everything I want to sell, replant the divisions somewhere in the garden and then when people come over simply pop the plants out of the ground and bag them. I save plastic bags for months before and even have friends and neighbors save them for me. After bagging, I slap a label on the bag so people know what they have when they get home. By doing it this way, if something doesn't sell, you don't have to replant all those pots of plants. Plants in the ground also don't dry out as fast as potted plants, so they're easier to keep watered. Whatever you do, don't make the mistake of thinking you'll divide the plant on the spot. I tried that once and it was a nightmare. It just takes too long to do while someone is standing there looking over your shoulder. Pricing can be tricky, but you have to make it worth your effort. I rarely sold anything for less than $4 - usually in the $5-6 range and for something like a nice sized division of a Cimicifuga - $8. In the fall when I sold Peony divisions, I charged $12 for an 8 eye division. I had no problems getting $25 for a division of one of my fern leafed peonies. I also propagate various Colocasia and sold those for something like $7-8 for a 3-4 inch pot. Customers constantly told me, they would much rather buy from someone like me rather than one of the garden centers because the plants were healthier, well cared for and locally grown. NEW Crown Point Cabinets on Craigs List

For anyone interested, I just noticed that someone is selling a set of unused (i.e. never installed) Crown Point cabinets on the Boston area Craigs list. It IS NOT me who is selling them, but I thought I'd post in case anyone is interested. Even at the sale price (mid 20s) it is still too much for my cabinet budget but someone here who wants to save on gorgeous custom might be able to take advantage.

My experience posting real estate on CL was: 1) Got 95% of inquiries (calls, emails) within 36 hours of posting the ad. 2) I learned to repost every few days to get more interest and each time I reposted that calls/emails would revive. I would delete the prior post and then create a new one. 3) Always post several photos 4) Put your location and price on subject line plus top selling feature if it fits (such as waterfront or 5 acres or 1 year old or top school district) 5) Dont have to specifiy FSBO in the subject line and don't have to make it the 1st few sentences of an ad either. Just focus on marketing the property and don't have to put FSBO front and center. Dont hide it, but don't make it more important that the home and price and location and top selling features of the property.

Thanks, folks! My friend does not want to use the same server for them, she says she knows she will get confused and use the wrong one to send, etc. She has side effects from traumatic brain injury so if that is what it takes to keep it simple, IÂll agree with her. Several other family members have Yahoo accounts, so the Yahoo one will stay the personal email. ItÂs not enough of a "business" that she wants to set up a domain name. SheÂll see how this retirement project goes first.

place the curtains on ebay. They will sell much faster! I have sold exercise equipment on CL before. It probably isn't going fast because the time of year.

Make sure you have good pictures and discriptions of the items. If yours is a smoke free /pet free home mention that.

Have you compared your prices with others on Craigs List? When I listed things I try to price my stuff slightly lower then the others.

Exercise equipment may sell faster in August or September, when people are not on holidays and start getting back into routines, etc. Another good time is January, with new year's resolutions...

I tried to sell a really since pendant light on CL and had no nibbles. It was (is) brand new in the box, never installed. I still can't figure out why. I paid $150 and asked $35 -- a bargain.

I have an exercise bike to give away, too. So many broken resolutions. Actually I used it a lot until my back started to hurt when using it.
