garage door hitting portion of tension spring..what to do

i bought a house with a screwed up garage door/opener

didnt take long after moving in that something was wrong (not covered by home warranty)

idiots put in the wooden garage door, a portion of metal that is attached to the center of the tension spring mechanism gets hit by the top of the garage door every time it opens. A low clearance issue. And over time, the increased resistance to lifting the door stripped the screw drive mechanism on the opener. So I get a grinding noise when attempting to raise the door

any suggestions on what to do with the door? need to address the clearance issue before fixing or replacing the stripped opener

even when raising it by hand, the door hits that piece of metal.
