Pillow size for king bed (sleeping AND decor)

Hello!

We have always had a queen sized bed and now have a king...

I know I need king sized shams....should our sleeping pillows also be king? Does it really matter? Ive never slept on a king sized pillow and wonder if a queen underneath your shams and toss pillows is ok...or would you be able to tell?

Oh! I should have searched more thoroughly. Here Is a link to my very question. Nevermind! Looks like king is the most appropriate way to go....

We don't have king sized shams, so it is not a given!

We sleep with king pillows, as the sheet sets come with king pillowcases.
When making the bed, we put the sleeping pillows down first, then place 3 standard pillows in standard shams across the front .

Okay, I posted some pics (links because I don't know how to do the pics) to some other pillows. They are shown for color and type NOT for the way they are placed here. I know that the consensus is that I need other shapes. I am looking. I do like the SW pottery one that was posted in a link above. I may order it if you think it would be good. Even though I don't really like the king shams (stripes) I have a lot invested in them and can't return them, so would like to use if I can get something that looks okay. I have taken pics of several different pillows. They are all basically the same shape besides the teal Euro and king stripe ones. There are two different sets of tan ones. One set is a little darker and then there is one with fringe. The fringed one seems to match both of the tan areas in the comforter. Then I found these pinkish pillows today and they are the same color as the pink in the comforter. There is also another picture on a side wall that has a pinkish hue that works with this. The last link is to another teal small pillow. I have two of these and they are in another room and could be used if needed. Another option is to buy a small decorator pillow in the matching material of the comforter. However, the only one that I find on ebay is about the same size and shape of the ones shown above. I could add a concho for decor if it would help. Ideas please???

I pile ours on a rocker in the bedroom. Can't use the floor, like another poster, the dogs would be laying all over them rather than on their own dog beds. I like the idea of the closet floor save that the closet in the bedroom (DH) is home to many other things on the floor. I have to say you gals all have such nice DHs. Helping you stow the pillows, making the bed and arranging the decorative pillows! Doesn't anyone have a DH like mine who complains daily with the question "why do we have so many pillows"? "Is it really necessary to have x amount of pillows", "this is nuts" and like comments? Sorry to hijak your post but couldn't resist after reading how other DHs aren't irritated with the decorative pillows. This is a daily bone of contention in our home.

It partially depends on how many pillows you are willing to deal with. I like to leave the sleeping pillows on the bed, so I lay those flat, then I lay king pillows in king shams flat on top of them. That hides the wrinkled cases on the sleeping pillows. In front of those, I stand up three Euro pillows. What I stand in front of the Euros depends on which bedding I'm using. It could be two standard sized pillows with a smaller breakfast pillow in front of them or three smaller sized pillows with a neckroll in front. My only rules are that it can't take more than three minutes to make the bed in the morning and all of the extra pillows have to fit on the bedside chair. No pillows are allowed to be stacked on the floor. LOL!

The entrance to the room is actually opposite this wall where we have a tv mounted and oddly enough a second door that serves direct to what was once used as a nursery. We will likely close that door up but not thrilled by the idea of having my bed on the same wall as the entrance to the room for some reason, Feng Shui of sorts

I agree with LuAnn - king sleeping pillows make sense because if you buy your sheets in sets, yo'll get king pillowcases. but if you buy them separately and prefer your queen pillows go ahead and use them. Whatever you decide to do as'decoration' - standard, king or euro pillows will work in with your sleeping pillow choice. It's a brave new world out there and dressing your bed is a personal choice, there's no right or wrong, IMO.

Thanks to you both;). The idea of three standard across the front vs. two king shams is a good one. No rules...I like that;)

I have a King, and I have two King pillows on the backside of 3 standard pillows in the front. It's a nice look!

I like Kings for decorating or one big body pillow with a great fabric. But, personally I like regular pillows for sleeping. I want things to have a good look but also like a good nights sleep. It's a personal choice, really.

We have a kind bed but sleep with tempurpedic pillows, they are so comfy but pretty ugly and very small. I just throw the covers over them, and plan to buy some cheap kings to put in shams over top.
