As Herbflavor suggests, curtains that would flutter in a breeze would add charm and be a softening feature in a room of rigid elements. These days they're not the usual thing either. You'd be avant garde. One of these days I'll come on line and find that curtains are once again "haute" among the middle classes. I've been watching for some years now, frankly, but only see them in magazines like Elle or House Beautiful or in the occasional commercial. Peculiarly, the kitchen in Something's Gotta Give had curtains, but they were about the only detail not copied adoringly. Just not their time again yet? Could the fact that our 10-year-olds could sew up a set of custom tiers using Grandma's old sewing machine also be a factor in their delay? (The over-unified decor industry is making me very cynical these days. What do shipping containers and the cost of cargo space have to do with all the flat picture frames we see everywhere?) I went with simple drapes for our bow window. 96 inches floor to almost ceiling. took 6 panels. had to sew 3 panels together. when I want privacy I close them. simple and easy. if u go with any type I'd blinds you'll wreck your wood and then when you want change yiur screwed. the finished look is very nice

I would remove the sheers so you have an open view and light during the day. Is it even necessary to have any window treatment? It doesn't look like privacy is an issue. If you do want something for night, I would use drapes that you can close when needed, with a rod mounted just under the crown molding, like this photo.

The problem I see is that the windows are huge and look to be 12" taller than the top of the door. Had the door not been so close to the window the disparity would not be so strong. No matter what you choose to do with the windows the door is going to disrupt the symmetry of the window wall. I think you should cover the glass of the door with window film or a shade that lets light in while providing privacy. Keep it simple though. I listed the various possibilities for covering the window, and did a mock-up of drapery that would focus attention on the area between the windows and not on the door. Your photo does not show the entire window wall so I can't see if the window on the right also sits up against another wall. Generally one should attach the rod brackets 8-12" outside the window frame. The left window against the corner offers no room for curtains to be opened against that corner and clear the frame. That is why I showed you the mock-up. Blinds or shades inside the window frame without curtains will give the cleanest look. Some shades can be lowered from the top to provide both light and privacy during the day.
