Scrapbooks with boyfriends--later break-up???

Have any of you done scrapbooking with your kids latest boyfriend/girlfriend in the pages and then due to a break-up regretted it. My daughter has been dating a guy for 11 months and of course a lot of the pictures are of them. Things seems a little rocky at times and I often wonder if it would be better to avoid the focus of them together??Just wondering?

I have thought about this too. Only not my daughter, but rather me and my brother. I have been dating the same guy for 4 years now, so i don't think about it much anymore with him, but my brother dated a girl for almost 2 years when I was at the time making him an album for his graduation. I thought about the possibility of her not being around forever and decided to include pictures of her if she was present at the event, but not specifically include her in the album as his "girlfriend." They broke up before i gave him the album, but i didn't change anything. We both realize that she was a part of his/ our life as a girlfriend/ friend and enjoy looking at the pictures and remembering that day. So, I guess i wouldn't disclude a boyfriend/ girlfriend, i just wouldn't make the focus be the relationship. I also found it interesting that his current girlfriend didn't seem to mind as much since the ex was included more because she was present rather than because she was a girlfriend.

i would include em because she is a part of his life now, i have pictures 13 years worth of my ex and they are in the albums and no matter how much i hate him he is still the father of my boys therefore part of our past lives (he has no contact with em now and we alllike it that way)

Everyone just laugh along with us. It's free & soooo good for you. I'm glad Shirley found a good use for the upcycled binder piece from a zippered binder from my son. It had frayed beyond repair again and was previous repaired by my daughter with duct tape, so two kids used it hauling a lot of places. Now it's a hanger for Shirley's things by her computer. Great idea by the way because there are lots of thin binders that get beat up here, too, but the rings weren't large enough for the garden tools like this one was. I didn't take any pics of what I made to send. Shirley, do you know how to upload pics to GWeb for Heidi to see? Description of how I made the book cover: I folded a brown paper sack to slide the ends of the front & back covers. I used hot glue to seal the sack to itself, but not to the book. I laid 2 scraps of upholstery samples side by side to cover the front. They already have pinked edges & I only cleaned up the side that was attached in the sample book. I placed another smaller piece overlapping both of the 1st pieces for the pocket or pouch gluing it in place on the sides & bottom. Next to it I attached another smaller rectangle for the pen & pencil. It's a bit tight, so hope it loosens up, but at least you won't lose the pen or pencil out of it. The denim blue & white color scheme looked nice on the brown paper, so that's how I picked them. I also selected one of the Sunset books that is the same size as the Ortho garden books, so if you have another thin volume you're using to carry around with you for reading in the garden or while waiting at dr's office you can slip that book inside the cover instead. A few years ago I went through a depression, since losing my granddaughter and MIL, within weeks of each other, and although crafting had been a huge part of my life since I was a young child, I decided I had had enough.....packed up all of my stuff, and gave some to my sister, and the rest to the senior center here in town so they could make things for their holiday sales. They use this money to help others in their small community or to go on trips! They loved it! But once I got into my normal way of thinking again, I sure did miss my stash! But, decided to buy only what I neeed for the projects I am doing! Well, needless to say..."THAT" idea didnt last long! I am a fanatic for different fabrics, and ended up looking for some of the fabrics I got rid of, and have built my fabric stash again......but since then I have also gotten into paper crafting....had to have a cricut, a sizzix, a scorpal, cropodile, etc, and naturally my fascination with diffrerent fabrics, has transferred to different papers, still have my fabric collection, and add to it now and again, but I found that papers take up a lot less room and I am more apt to use them. I dont have much time now with my restaurant as I work about 16 hrs a day, so I have to take my stuff with me and when I get a few minutes, I sneak into my office and make stuff for the restaurant. I make my own signs, business cards, decorations for my windows (right now I want to do a huge display for back to school) . I have huge windows, 6 of them at the front of my restaurant, so lotsa room to be creative! And naturally my grandchildren help! So, do what ya gotta do about your stuff, but just remember, you might regret getting rid of some of it, but if so, you can find most of it again somewhere..i got what I really wanted back on Ebay I am about to turn 53, and cant imagine my life without crafts...but dont get into it as much since my sister moved to West Virginia to be closer to her kids, and my best friend moved to New Mexico....they were my inspiration! But I am doing okay by myself!

One other scrapbooking rule I'd need to follow is, it's not about the stuff you buy at Michael's. It's ONLY about the stuff you get from LIFE as you go through it. The program from the school play, the ticket stubs, the travel brochures, the photos. It's the EXTRA stuff that would make it even worse. And that I believe detracts--distracts?--from the memories the scrapbook is supposed to preserve. I think scrapbook pages that have doo-dads on them are about the MAKER, not about the event, or the people in the pictures. it can easily become an ego thing, and not a record-keeping thing. I too need to just jump right in, even if the old pictures never get in an album, maybe the new ones can. Instead, I've just stopped taking any pictures.

Good for you Kathleen. I play the games still but don't really spend a lot of time on them like some of my FB friends do. My brother has been keeping my Farm Town going for me since with my old computer I was unable to play it any more. I have been back lately now I have this laptop but only to plant crops and send my brother fuel. I have joined some of the games because my friends needed neighbours but I don't play them. I'm almost ready to give up Farmville because of the glitches and the same for the new Treasure Isle. I don't know why I started it to begin with. I do like Treasure Madness though because you don't have to put too much time into it. If I am on the computer I spend my time researching genealogy for myself and do look ups for my friends. Even if I am on the computer I don't sit. I am up and down doing the things around the house that need doing. I don't usually turn my computer on until after 7 pm, then turn it off and then back on after 11 pm. Sometimes I will check in during the day and then forget to shut FB down until I noticed the computer shut down because the battery needed charging. I guess I should keep it plugged in. Most of my friends that play the games like Farmville and Farmtown are at a much higher game level than I am because I just don't spend that kind of time playing. LOL With my old computer that was slow it would take me much longer to do anything compared to how fast my friends got things done. LOL Accepting gift requests on FB was very time consuming and took a long time so when I got this laptop I started to go through all of the gifts and accepted some and got rid of the others and most had expired. Every time I got rid of 100 there was another 100 that had been stored and when I got rid of them there was another 100. There was over 1000 gifts that had been sent to me for the games. I couldn't believe it. LOL That is the reason I don't send out very many game gifts to my friends unless they ask for them. Anne

When I was in my teens I made scrapbooks with pictures and memories of fellas I dated. A couple I threw away out of anger. Now, 20-some odd years later I am happy I have what I saved and wishing I didn't throw the others away. Those days are my life and my memories and I have a right to them. Looking back on them brings back many feelings, some good others heartbreaking. But these are what made me into what I am now.

I say go ahead and make them. They can be put away in a box, if necessary, and/or thrown away in years to come, but can't be recaptured once the moment is gone.

I have done a lot of pages of my daughter and her and her boyfriends or her husband (he later passed away), and I scrapped all of them. While her husband was alive I kept all of her layouts that included old boyfriends and her at my home, so he wasn't upset by them, but she could still come and see them when ever she wanted to. Now that her husband has passed away, she has all of them again at her home. I think it's wrong to throw out photos of those times of your life, but I know jealousy can be a big problem so this was my solution. I have done this also with my brother's photos that included someone other than his wife, since one of his old girlfriends threw out a TON of his photos with him and another old girl friend, even though they also included photos of his children. I still regret letting him take them to his home. Love Penny

Keep a few pictures, but not all of them. Since my scrapbooks are in chronological order, there are a few pictures of past boyfriends. My relationships with different people are part of my life, and I want to remember them! I very rarely look back at them, but I can't forget that they existed!!
