Watercolor Pencils

Has anyone used watercolor pencils in their scrapbbooks? I found some at Michaels today and decided to try them out but I must be doing something wrong. I rubber stamped a hummingbird on the paper then colored in with the pencils then used a brush dipped in water to blend the colors and to overlap the stamp a bit, but not much happened :(

So whats the trick? Or maybe more practice.

I haven't used water colours in scrapbooks but my sister is big on rubber stamping and uses watercolour pencils to colour in all her stamps.

What she does is wet the paintbrush and wipe it over the tip of the pencil (the pencil gets wet and the lead turns like paint that goes onto the brush. then you paint in the stamp like you are using paint. Try it on scrap paper first though. too much water and the paper ends up soggy not enough and the colour might be too dark. also once it has dried if two colours need a bit of blending you wet the brush a bit and wet the colours again and they will blend (or get lighter...)

What are Artist trading cards? Never heard of them.I have never been able to get the hang of pastels but I have done some gourds with the watercolor pencils.You are talking about the colored pencils like map colors,right? I just color like a kid coloring in a coloring book then blend with a Q tip or one of those blending pencils.You can even dampen the Q tip but be careful or you will rub off all the color.I also use a pencil eraser to blend and it works pretty well.I'm not sure this is what you are talking about.......Lillie

I ended up buying 3 books, one on Southern Fashion during the Civil War era, one on flowers and one on Victorian homes. I also bought an electric ($5.00) pencil sharpener, and two packs of colored pencils. One is from Martha Stewart which seems to have a lot of pastels which I needed, and another smaller pack with the primary colors. Martha's pencils are supposed to blend with other colors if you want. Tonight I'll try to order an eraser, pencil box and a tote to keep my stuff organized. Guys, this is going to be fun! I don't think you can get the Aquaglaze at a regular home improvement store. I have never done any faux treatment before, but I have a good friend who is a wiz at glazing her walls. She has promised to help and teach me along the way. I am going to use the same kind of antique gold paint pen for my diamonds since it will blend with my fabric for the window treatments. I am not sure that the fabric is exactly the same, but it is very similar. Today I finished the final coat of paint and I am hoping to map out my grid design on paper. Since I have 8 ft ceilings, I am planning on using the same meaurements as the inspiration room to make it easy. I will let you know how it goes! Once I get the grid marked on the wall, I will post a pic so you can see how it looks.

Prismacolor is very good. A friend of mine is a locally well known artist, and that is her choice of brands for pencils. She does beautiful portraits and landscapes with them. I am just learning to 'paint' with colored pencils, and just for the heck of it, I bought one of the adult coloring books. Also some Crayola pencils and another cheapy brand Walmart had. They are sort of okay, the Crayola brand is okay, but there is all the difference in the world between either of them and the Prismacolor. They are a joy to use! You might go to the Dick Blick website and read about the different brands, their quality, and their attributes. If your sister is serious about her coloring and does a lot of it, I strongly recommend a good quality, artists' grade pencil. I, personally haven't tried the gel pens yet, that's next on my agenda. Yes, a brush is the way to go, at least till you get your pencils smooshed down a bit. I use my brush to dab on the paint rather then "paint" it on. No brush marks and the color is more intense. Just play with it till your comfortable. truthfully I like watercolors rather then a pencil. It is more practical, really, brushing paint off a pencil is not the most effective way to get it on a stamp.Felicity is right about soggy warped paper....unless your aiming for that in the first place. Hmmm would be kind of like corrigated paper. You can have alot of fun with brayers too. I like sweeping rainbows and fields of green on, and brayers are perfect for that.
