In honor of the last week of daylight savings and my last week of being able to walk outdoors after work, I walked about 4 miles in 40 degree drizzle tonight. Since I've always been a fan of drizzly, raw fall dusks, it felt great. After the walk I did a stretching routine followed by a free weight session. This will be the winter of getting back into shape. So, will it or will it not frost tonight? The weather isn't calling for it but it's 39 F now. Maybe I'll toss on some shoes and go out and move a few pots into the screen porch or garage. I don't want to lose the brugs or my red abyssinian banana. At this point I'm probably torturing the poor plants by leaving them out but I still say they prefer it to being tortured in the house...lol. Today I went to Lowe's and bought a bag of potting soil so I can repot some of them. Think all the potential bugs are dead yet? I'm waiting for groceries to be delivered. The two hour window they gave me is 7-9. A little while ago I decided to start dinner with something I had rather than wait so we don't have to potentially eat at 9:30. Tomorrow night is the kick off of our physical inventory at work so I won't be home til late because we get all the reports set up to print then go out to dinner. I call it my annual date night since it's usually me and a few men...lol...perhaps I need to get out more. Eden I have a weather station. It's a LaCrosse and was fairly expensive. I think I got it at Gardener's Supply last year. The remote unit is in the kitchen. The temp and wind sensors are out in the reclamation area on a pole. While reading the instructions we realized the outdoor sensors had to be protected from rain so we put a plywood platform on top of the pole and a birdhouse on top of that. It's fun to have. We are facing the same decisions on our reno in Lake Tahoe. I have lighting plans done, but my KD and contractor don't see eye to eye and right now I'm feeling pretty blurry eyed. Thanks dmlove for your contribution! I love your idea of overworking the Fluorescents on the overhead cabinets. I have a lot of those to work with, so you think T5HO would be the best solution for this? (For T24 only, we'll never use them) My husband and I live on mood lighting even when we aren't entertaining. Evenings we cook together and our kitchen lighting consists of candles on our island (2 glasses with a good Brunello or Bordeaux), 2 medium-lit task lights and a low-lit chandelier in our adjoining dining room. For us, bright lights are for surgery and cleaning. I'm also taking a look at your suggestion of the Juno 13 watt bulb airtight cans to dim and Lutron Hi Lume that dim down to 1%. We are searching for warm ambient lighting with dimmers......so any other suggestions are welcome! Under island and undercabinet lighting needs to be decided as well

All of the rules about Title 24 are concerned with saving energy. It has nothing to do with safety. Basically, the rule for kitchens is that you need to have at least 50% of your total WATTAGE from energy-saving light fixtures. Notice that this is not the same as 50% of your fixtures. For example, it takes four 26 watt fluorescent cans to balance one 100 watt incandescent fixture. And when they count incandescent fixture wattage, they count the maximum you could use. So, if your fixture can take 3 100 watt bulbs, it counts as 300 watts even if you are only using 3 60 watt bulbs in it. Appliance and hood lights are not counted. I know fluorescent fixtures count as energy saving, but they must be fixtures that take pin-based (not screw-in) bulbs only, so you can't switch them out for incandescent bulbs later. I think some LED fixtures count, also. Incandescent and halogen bulbs are NOT energy saving. Here is what was recommended to me: Use fluorescent under-cabinet and possibly over-cabinet lights. Use 5" 26 watt pin-type fluorescent cans for most of the lighting. Put in a couple matching 5" incandescent cans from the same company with the same trim, and use them over the areas where you want the best light, like over your sink or prep area. Another option is use the remodel type of fluorescent cans and change them out after inspection. Over your island/table, put in a flush-mount fluorescent fixture. After your inspection, you can change out the fixture for one you like. You can still use screw-in dimmable fluorescent bulbs in it, but you will have an easier time finding a fixture you love.
