What is your favorite part of this craft?

Besides the fact that I am saving my photos, I really enjoy punching out photo mats and looking for just the right thing to go with this or that photo. I guess I should have been a designer. LOL Penny

I like trying all types of new ideas and watching pictures that were so so turn into something interesting. My favorite part is when my 3 year old DD looks at the finished result and says "Mommy, I so proud of you." :)

I love some of the bullyish spreading roses. Great if you put them in just the right area. Also 'Silver Dragon' Liriope is a thug and you have to constantly pull up new plants as it will spread several feet underground and then pop up. But it has such a lovely color and can quickly fill in for a nice effect. Plus you always have some to share, just keep it in check. 'Limelight' Artemesia is another one like this. You'll pull it up by the handful each year when it spreads out of its designated area and it benefits you to whack off the tips now and again to keep it from going to seed. But it can grow 2 or 3 feet tall or be cut at a variety of heights to fit your filler needs, and adds that great splash of yellow and lime green to the garden. I don't mind thugs if they have relatively thick stems and are easy to grip and pull up. I don't care for some of the mints though because they are so thin and frail so the stems break easily when you try to pull them. I'm still trying to rid one bed in particular of some mint though I can see that aggressive quality might have served me nicely in other areas if I'd thought it through a little better. Danielle

Xc60, I am so jealous of your drawer cabinets! I planned on 2 drawer bases, but had to sacrifice the smaller 24" one for the microwave drawer, although I do have a nice, big drawer beneath it. And having the microwave drawer was definitely worth the trade off, solved several problems and I love it. The only drawback to the microwave drawer is it is expensive. I do have a 30" 3 drawer base and I love it! I really wish that my 33" base cabinet was a drawer base also and I am seriously considering ordering 2 drawers for the 15" base cabinet that is next to my range. I keep my smaller pots and pans in there and drawers would be so much nicer!

What are your favorite parts of your pool/deck area? Just starting...b

I'm in CT. I used a medium gray plaster on a gunite shell, so the pool has a dark "pond water" type of look versus a bright blue water look. My pool (also 20x40) warms up quite nicely on sunshine alone. No solar cover, etc. Summer it stays in the high 80s, in a long hot spell it can turn to bath water in the low 90s. I do have a propane heater that can heat the pool and spa. I heat the spa, but haven't heated the pool since the kids went off to college. A 400k Raypak. I open the pool in April and close it in November. For heating the pool you'll want a 400k heater. Favorite simple things? I love the gray plaster and the dark subdued color of the water. I put turn tiles at each end of the pool for swimming laps. Dislike? The 3' wide ribbon of Kool Deck around the pool. I would have preferred to not have it and instead have stone coping, but for budget purposes I did the pool with the Kool Deck right away, as the kool deck was part of the pool package. Then the next year I installed the roughly 1800 sqft of stone patio, built and installed the 450' of cedar fence, and built the 16' by 40' pergola. Step by step. pool

I'm with you nancyjane on the hand watering. It gives me a chance to pause and really look at each area as I evaluate the water needs there. I feel like I really know the garden well after a few times through with the hose end watering wand. I'll notice pests, weeds, produce ready for harvest, etc, etc, and go back and deal with those later. But for the present moment, I'm just playing with the plants and water. Harvesting is also a favorite except when it is something very time consuming that I've over planted. Processing the bounty is NOT my favorite so I try to adjust my planting to spread things out so I can eat most things fresh. For later use, I'll go for things like onions, garlic, winter squash that don't require much work before storage. I also like things I can overwinter in the ground or protect with row cover. It's interesting to see that some of the things I like least are favorites of others. I worked with a lady who loved to weed. I did not. But after working in a school garden with her over several years, I came to like weeding...at least a little bit. The change was due partly to attitude and partly to techniques I learned from her.

Being able to share my albums with friends and not having to sit with them and explain what each photo was of and who the people were. It is also great for photos that were taken about 5 years ago. My son can see pictures of our old house and our old neighbors without having to ask, 'What's this or that?'

Mine's close to want Jan said. All the time and money that I've spent doesn't mean a thing, it's when the boys look at the albums time after time and still want to look at it again tomorrow. (does that make sense) They know people that they will never get to meet.

I like having the journaling part of it. I hate to do it while I'm doing it, but am always happy that I took the time. I feel like what I'm making is not a photo album but a story book of our lives. Story books need words. :)

I do like picking out the things to create the page though. I'm on a mission looking for a few things right now that I can't seem to find (have one more LSS to check) and I thrive on that sort of thing. :)
