Interesting Observation

It appears that 99.9999% of the posts here are women.Â There apparently are no more single men . . . perhaps that's why you ladies are single??

Maybe, but I doubt it. I think women are inherently more verbal and more inclined to talk about feelings, experiences, etc. Many men will give you the facts and/or their opinion but are less inclined to embellish or analyze interpersonal interactions. Mind you, this is a very broad generalization. Maybe the fellows are hanging out on the tractor forum...hmmm. I can learn to like tractors...yeah, that's the ticket!

It's an interesting observation but I think the conclusion is off base. I'm betting that the majority of single women who post here are single by choice. What say ye, ladies?

Nicholas' book was dated 1937. This is the HMF reference to an abreviated version of the reference. A Rose Odyssey EDIT Book (1937) Page(s) 14. Several years ago there was a discussion in American Rose Society circles about the genuineness of the American stock of General Jacqueminot. I studied the question abroad and found at Reymond's a line of magnificent everblooming General Jacqueminot, descendants of the original stock he had inherited from his Uncle Roussel, the originator. These had been improved almost to the status of a Hybrid Tea (sic) in floriferousness. We acquired enough plants from Reymond to rejuvenate our stock and the General Jacqueminot stock of Jackson and Perkins is of authentic French origin He stated in the book, through propagation in the US, the variety (and many other HPs) ran to rampant, blind growth. Think Dr. Huey suckers with little bloom.

"Turned them into DWC" is an interesting statement. With Kratky the roots have grown down into the nutrients, but have also grown a significant number of specialized roots to pull oxygen from air. How much do you wanna bet that the re-flooding with DWC drowned them out enough to zap the kale and lettuce? I'm glad to hear that the tomatoes are doing well -- I had wanted to try tomatoes that way, but worried they'd die off after the Kratky 60-day period. Did you do anything special to move them from Kratky to DWC? Wash the roots with plain water to deal with salt buildup or anything?

They are extremely uncommon, and when people talk about growing citrus they're usually talking about growing it in pots and bringing it indoors for half the year. Citrus has a lot of trouble growing here because of the low temperatures for half the year. Even though the Winters are relatively mild, it's a very short growing season in terms of the temperatures citrus needs to grow. However, I have read numerous anecdotal reports of people managing to grow cold-hardy citrus varieties in the ground, typically in a sunny spot against the South-facing wall of a house. These cold-hardy varieties aren't that common and many people do not even know these citrus types exist. They also don't tend to be the same level of eating quality as the varieties found in the supermarket, so that doesn't help (although a few of them that can survive here aren't that bad). I did see the local nursery carrying 'Flying Dragon', although that's strictly an ornamental or for rootstock. We do actually have a fair amount of heat in the Summer, almost comparable to Southern California, but it is for a much shorter length of time. People typically use their air conditioners for about 2 or 3 weeks out of the year, although about half the homes don't bother having air conditioners.

The Edit or Delete functions only apply to the originator of that comment/post. No one else has the ability to alter your comments and there is a time limit attached as well that even restricts the author's ability to do so. But the flagging option remains viable indefinitely.....and that is how spamming or contentious posts get removed. And I tend to approve wholeheartedly with that!! Spam - or blatant advertising - has no place here and some comments can be so personally abusive that they should not be allowed to stand or remain unchallenged.

Definitely NOT single by choice! I've found that men are like parking spaces - all the good ones are taken, and the rest are Handicapped or too far away. There certainly is a distinct shortage in this forum!

Remember that "single by choice" can mean any number of things, including but not limited to:

-I've decided that I want to be single for my entire/the rest of my life.

-I've decided to leave a relationship I was in. Therefore I'm single by choice.

-I've chosen to stay single until I meet someone I really want to be with.

It's more like I'm divorced by choice Being single is the end result.Would I ever get married again? I doubt it at my age unless ..... who knows. Guess anything is possible.

Maybe there should be a post for Widows and Widowers. We are single. But not by choice. We would enjoy the conversation with other not by choice singles.

I would be surprised if there were a lot of men posting on this site. Doesn't seem like their thing for the reasons browntoestoo pointed out. I have several single male friends and I have found that they don't much like talking about the single life. Some guys figure, if there's no goal or point to the conversation, why dwell on it.

My brother lives in Germany, I hardly ever see him, and once when he came to visit I invited him to go out with a group of my friends on Friday after work and he declined, saying "I don't want to be the rooster in the hen house!" I was so pissed off at him! Excuse me, my friends just happened to be single women! I wouldn't knock going out with his male buddies! My friends wanted to meet my brother only because they knew he was important to me and they were my friends. He lived in another country, they hardly expected to get set up with him. But I made the mistake of calling it "ladies night out" and that was the end of it for my brother.

Anyway, it is a rare fellow who has the gift of gab and wants to just chat with the ladies. At least that's been my experience. Sometimes that is a great quality, something I love about men, the focus on tasks rather than talk.
