Sophie Doll help

I posted this in the Dollmaking Forum before I realized there isn't a lot of traffic over there, so I'm posting it here, too:

My(12yo)granddaughter called me for help figuring out her Sophie Doll pattern, and I can't for the life of me understand what she is asking. She says the piece for the back of the head is a rectangle with a smaller square in it(?)and she doesn't know what to cut out. I know if I could see the pattern piece I could help her, but I don't have it, and her folks' digital camera is down at the moment and they can't email a picture of it.

Does anyone have this pattern, and could you post a picture of the back head piece? Or just tell me what she's talking about? She sounded really frustrated and now I am too! I feel like "Bad Gramma" because I can't answer her question!

I would really appreciate any help!

Sorry, no answer here. What about having DGD trace pattern and copy instructions and send to you? That way you could actually see what she is talking about.

Thanks, Kathy. I called her and left a message to call me back and read the instructions to me, and I'd probably know what to do from that, but she hasn't returned my call yet. She may be distracted at the moment...she is after all, 12. I'm thinking the smaller square inside the rectangle is where either the hair is attached, or where the face transfer is placed for the front.

Not even close...and I don't think you can alter a barbie pattern to fit...If I were you and I really wanted to sew some outfits, I'd buy a doll and just make my own patterns...

Hi B. Dolls of a given height are rearely the same body shape. An 18 inch doll can be baby, toddler, child, teen or adult (lady) Each of these body shapes vary dramatically. I suggest that you buy the doll you thing your grandaughter would like and draft directly from the doll. Basic patterns can easily be tizzed with a bit of lace and gathering. I have a really cute Bunny Jammie bag, made from fuzzy side out sweat shirt material ... but it is rather small..... MAYBE toddler size pj's. I guess you could just make it larger..... Let me know and I'll try and get the instructions and pattern scanned for you. I have sold LOTS of these over the last 15 years, doesn't seem to matter that they are small!! The pattern is from a book that my Mother had had for YEARS before I found it.... guessing 1960's or 70's. Karen
