Here is the little bit of knowledge I have about storing photos. Use non-acid paper available in scrap book stores, photo stores, and hobby stores. Never use plastic that contains PVC. Oddly, I've heard sandwich bags are ok. However, its best to use acid free paper which does not collect moisture like plastic can. And do keep in a low moisture area that is not subject to very high or very low temperatures. For precious photos, put an archival quality paper between each photo. Store in acid free cardboard boxes. Be sure and write the names of the photographed people on the backs of each photo. Google storing or protecting photos for a lot more info. Supplies probably available on line.

What I've been told is that the ink jet pictures will fade with time...don't think there is anything you can do about it. And...that the laser jet pics last much longer...most of us have ink jet printers. But..I am going to go ahead and use what pictures I want from my printer...when they are in an album, the light and air doesn't hit them, so they should (I feel) last as long as anyone concerned will want them...a chance we have to take if we are going to use them. I might buy a laser printer the next time...the cartridges are more expensive, but it might be worth the investment....

I agree, but Houzz would have had to have a separate server to retain all those posts. I guess it set a time limit and space limit on retained posts, so we lost a ton, but every now and then, I see some older posts pop up from someone's search. I think they did away with all the 90s and only kept those from the 2000s, because I've seen a few pop up from 2003 and 2005. Sadly, the early days were the best, when there were so many more members and so much great information.
