new scrapbooker

My daughter is getting married in July and I'm wanting to do a scrapbook of her prewedding things (showers etc.)and her wedding (it will be in Las Vegas). I've looked at scrapbooking and bought some books but haven't really done anything yet. I'd love some ideas on how to get started, what I really need, etc. Thanks for the help. Jackie

First read ALL the posts of this forum. There are tons of ideas here on what to buy, and where to buy it the cheapest, and a lot of scrapbook terms and tips . I am inculding my favorite link that has TONS of sites for you to view. My second suggestion is to take a class if one is available in your area. At most classes you can use the instructors punches, scissors, etc, there by finding out first hand which ones you prefer, without having to buy them yourself. Keep posting and asking questions about what you need to know, someone here will try to figure out how to help you in what ever your problem or questions is. Penny

Thanks Penny, I appreciate your response. I just found out my daughter has been invited to a scrapbook party. One of those Creative Memory ones. I'll bet she learns alot to share also. Jackie

fran, yes, the black boo is doing fine- still in tubs along our wall. We can see some branches through the back windows so it's nice. The ones we put in the ground: dulcis, vivax and zigzag are doing very well. The vivax, particularly, is spectacular. We got some culms this year that i could only handspan about 1/2-2/3 of the way around (so about 4" across), and they are 30 to 40' tall. It was amazing watching them grow!

Welcome! Your question about adhesive is a loaded question because everyone has their favorites. LOL I use Xyrons, tape runners, glue dots, and sometimes just photo corners (amongst other things) It all depends on the look I'm trying to achieve and what I'm trying to adhere (paper, photo, embellishments). As for the plastic, that is a personal choice but if the albums are to be handled and looked at by people the plastic pages are a good way to protect your photos and any embellishments that might come loose over time.

Hi Betty, I was told at my first class it is okay to use things in your scrapbook as long as they don't touch the actual photos, because if they aren't acid free they would eventually ruin your photos. i have used ribbon and flyers and ticket stubs......but if its something i feel i can't replace like a newspaper clipping or my first G-child's sonogram I take it to my scrapbook store and they will spray with archival mist for a dollar a spray. If you have a lot to do it would pay to spend the 40. for a can.I also have been told if it has a strong smell such as a marker,or if it runs when wet, such as ribbons or material. DON't USE! Should have added this before go to this website Diynet.com This is the Do It yourself cable network that is owned also by the folks that have the Home and Garden station Put in the address above. Look to the left when you get to the site. Put in the rectagular search box the word scrapbooking and then click on the large arrow that points to the rectangular box to find numerous projects and articles that you can click on to find out about scrapbooking. This information comes from a show on DIY everyweek that is about Scrapbooks!
