Scanner?

Have any of you used a scanner to copy your photos for use in scrapbooking? Does the quality depend on how good your printer is as well as how good the scanner is? I am looking at a scanner that is on sale for $40.00 and figures it would pay off in no time by the time I make reprints, copy newspaper clippings, etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

The scanner & printer quality will have a definite effect on the final result. Is scanner brand new or used? If used, it's probably not going to be the best quality (could be why they're getting rid of it). For $40 I'd say go for it, you've spent A LOT more than that on a million other supplies, haven't you! I'm also curious why you want to reproduce your photos, rather than use them?

It is a new scanner at Staples. The reason I want to reproduce my photos is to save the price of using the negative to make copies. With my daughters sports teams I have often made a one page summary for each girl(yes, I am crazy and addicted) and if I want to use my original for my daughter and personalize the other girls with a picture in it then I need a copy. I also give my mother and in-laws each a copy of a page that I have done and I take them in and get them color copied for $1.50 each. If I had a scanner and would be happy with the copy I would save that cost. I used to take my negatives in and get all those copies, all the special stickers, papers, etc. and although the printer copy is not 100% as good, it is close.

Those codes are all over the place around here, even my bank sent a card saying I could track my accounts by using one (WTH?!). Possibly it's unfortunate, but those codes give me the same feeling as joining a 'social site' ~ mental red flags shrieking "who is doing what with the info you give them?" I know: I'm out-of-date and atavistic, but I didn't invest in the dot-com companies when they were doing this same sort of everybody-does-it push, I don't open e-mails from unknowns, and I don't give strangers private/personal info ~ and I'm not sorry. BTW, I understand that one thing done whenever you scan, is tracking who is interested in what, so they can "personalize" offers. They know the who (M or F, age range, residence area, etc) from when you sign up. Frankly, I prefer to be an anonymous elderly F paying cash for what I want when I want it without having more ads pitched at me.

Brother PE-SCAN Embroidery Scanner

HI dancing girl ! Alot has happened since I purchased my pe scan! 2 new embroidery machines 1 old version of Disney then a new version of brother embroidery machine ....I haven used my pe scan but once! I tryed using it yesterday. ....it no longer works! Tryed looking it up on brother website but there is no such item must be so outdated! I took it apart today and fuse is black I need a new fuse ! But I don't know what kind of fuse it is! Brother is closed on Sunday :(. Maybe you know someone with this information the rest of the machine is pristine! But the fuse! ...I JUST ORDER THE BROTHER SCAN N CUT LAST WEEK! I'm so excited I'm wondering if I need this machine anymore now that I have the scan and cut I might be able just to transfer to pe design after I scan on cut n scan or I can just transfer it to my machine after that it sounds complicated to me so if I have to but a new one I might just get the flip pro scanner for brother I found one for 135.oo. so I have to wait till next month unless the cut n scan works?? If anyone knows anything about the only fuse that's inside the pe scan let me know ! I like to use this for lace if I can fix it! Thank you so much!! Dancing girl! !

I realize that this posting is two years old, but I wanted to share my input/advice/experience for anyone else who happens to be shopping for a flatbed scanner! The Canon CanoScan LiDE 210 is the best photo and document scanner I've ever used. It bought it on sale from Newegg.com for $90 about 18 months ago and I love it. It's thin and light enough to fit in my laptop bag with my 14" laptop AND it is powered by the USB connection that it uses to transfer data. It's awesome.

I just recently got a scanner and I have been reproducing pictures for my scrapbooks. I am very happy with how they look! The scanner was just one that came free with my computer, so it is not an expensive one. I started scrapbooking a year ago and only have one copy of some of the pictures of my kids when they were babies ( I did not neatly file the negatives). Now I can copy them to use and still have the original in their photo albums, plus I don't have to worry about ruining a precious picture. I have also scanned all of my pages onto a disk and have that in a fireproof safe, so if my book would ever get damaged, I still have a copy of them.

I also have been scanning photos for 6months. Your scanner, printer and photo paper must be of good quality. Otherwise it will show in the reproductions. Have had no problem with mine so far. By doing this I save the originals and as I have a copy left on the computer any time I want to do a new one or change part of a photo I don't need to find where I put the original.

We are wanting to get a scanner and a printer and I am very new at all of this too. Am I correct in thinking that the scanner quality is not as important as the printer quality? I think we will get a good, but not expensive scanner, but a really good printer. There are some printers, though that are "photo quality" and cost like $500-$600. I am not sure that is necessary, is it? Marcia
