I have had that happen to my mahogany front door (pet nails). I placed a steaming iron on a towel over the indent and it pulled them back out about 90%. If you have any leftover boards you can test on them. For future reference always lay a 1/4" Masonite board under any appliance you want to move on a hardwood floor, even if it has wheels...

Bee, so sad to hear about your floor. I have used steaming successfully on a regular wood floor, but not prefinished. I would call Mohawk and ask them for recommendations.

BTW--I saw your post on your countertops going in, and they are fabulous! I am a big fan of marble, but trying to talk myself out of using it because of etching. I never thought I liked Super-White, but your slabs are drop-dead gorgeous! Veining just as pretty as a marble. How did you come across such beautiful material? Congrats on a beautiful kitchen!

Aw, that's sad to hear, Bee. The first dent is always the hardest, believe me I know from experience.

On the bright side, although this surely isn't what you want to hear now, with oak floors I always think of minor dents and slight scratches as adding character.

At least that's what I tell myself when I see new dents or dog nail scratches in our floors. Thank goodness for the grain of oak. And for "character". :)

yeah, I'm going to call Mohawk and ask. We could have them replace the boards, because there are some other spots that were damaged during flooring installation and they have to do those spots anyway.

taggie, that's what I tell my dh. There will be other dings. At least it isn't a gouge.

marcolo--not really sure. We installed the fridge. we dinged the floor. I'm sure we can point it out during punch list and get it fixed. We are not really supposed to do any "work" on the house ourselves even though we own the land and the house. (long story) The builder was supposed to install the fridge but I was getting a little impatient with it sitting in the middle of my family room and no one was showing up. I also have an 87# 42" vent hood sitting in my breakfast room that they are supposed to install. We will not go rogue on that one. They have now waited so long that the counters are in, the rangetop with its 24" high shelf is now installed. They are making it more and more difficult on themselves. It's sort of funny, the job supervisor will show up, see the fridge installed and just assume one of his guys came and did it. That's how it went down with the chandy over the island. We wanted it in before the stone was installed. The electrician couldn't it done in time. We asked the electrician if he minded if a friend of ours who is an electrician stepped in and did that for us. He didn't care. Then the super showed up on the day of rock installation, saw the light and said "oh good, they got it in"....

Hi. I have to agree with taggie. That first dent is a tear-jerker, but unless it needs some professional attention, or you get some helpful tips from Mohawk, maybe just leave it alone... if anyone asks about it, sounds like you've got a great story:-)

My fridge on wheels also left horrible track lines going back into its "home". At the office supply store I bought the plastic mats(without the studs) that go underneath desk chairs. Now when the fridge is pulled out for cleaning underneath (or when there was a leak :( -the mat is placed down on the floor for protecttion. Seems to work. Why couldn't those wheels have a better design!

If it's prefinished, it shouldn't be that hard to remove and replace the damaged bits with nobody being the wiser, right? Much more easily done than if it were a site-finished floor.
