Question About Responding to Older Posts

Not the first time this has happened to me.

I was looking for something particular and did a search. Found an older post by Funkyart about looking for bedding for her room. I had never seen this thread and so I read it all, then, typed a response. (the thread was from March of this year). My response submitted and is now on the thread......but........it did not bump the thread to the top. Why is that?

I don't know that is weird. Maybe they thought it was not worthy of making it to the top, censorship?

Red.. i can search for the thread a little later or you can ask your question on this thread. That doesn't explain the odd behavior but it will get your question answered :)

I will be MIA for a few hours but I will check back (have to earn the money to pay for these things I love).

Thank you, Aspedsm, That is very kind! I would like to get some leaves, but will have to wait. Because just now I had to toss a plant as itt had thrips. So I will wait until I can get everything cleaned up and am sure my collection is safe. (I brought in some plants from a store that I guess I did not isolate long enough.) @ Karin, The resolution of the discussion of tea was not to use either tea water or tea bags on indoor plants. The used tea bags can be used as compost in a garden in the summer. But they are not sterile and might contain bacteria. Joanne

Folks, I saved the good seeds!! These are ones that I have had for 5 years, ya know the junk stuff. I sent off some years back a truck load of Datura seeds to a college guy and I'm sure he about fainted when they arrived. I keep a 25 gallon container of seeds that we collect from the yard or others. DH is to the point no more seed keeping when he saw all that went out! But again he sure doesn't want me to plant them all back in the yard either!!

Tea color water ? question from older post.

Peter, my pond goes through this a few times a year when the oak trees are at their worst littering (which they seem to be always doing) stages. Even in spring, when it's just the pollen and catkins, the water gets that clear "strong tea" color. The water test results remain in the desirable ranges. Four years ago I was advised it won't hurt the fish and they certainly seem to be doing fine, so I just live with it. As you said, it does look more natural. Are there any trees nearby that could be dropping anything from pollen to twigs into the pond and is there any way to exclude that? A partial water change might lighten the color a bit, but you want to be careful about stressing the fish with changes in water temperature and chemistry. Your concern is valid and warranted. I am 100% confident that there is a vacuum at the top of your panels when operating at low speed. I can give you an estimate as to the amount but I can tell for sure what the maximum pressure is because the filter pressure will always be higher than the panel pressure by the height of the panels. So: Panel Pressure Panel Pressure -4.5 PSI is an absolute maximum pressure for the panels and with a guess of 2 PSI dynamic head loss in the filter, pipe and panels, the pressure is likely to be less than -6.5 PSI at the output of the panels. This is pretty low and probably a high estimate so the vacuum is likely to be stronger than that or more negative. If you want to know for sure what the pressure is, the only way to do that, besides the above calculation, is to measure it at the top of the panels but you would need a port of some sort to connect the vacuum guage. There is really nothing you can do short of running at high speed to make the pressure above 0 PSI. Low speed does not have enough energy to create enough pressure no matter what you do. But consider this. Turnover for a 15k g pool and a 1 1/2 HP pump at high speed is close to 3 hours and for low speed about 6 hours. During the summer months, you will probably need more than one turnover so running at high speed would give 2 turnovers in 6 hours when the sun is the strongest and heat transfer the greatest. Also, when you reach desired temperature and solar turns off, the pump can downshift to low speed so you will at least save some money during that time. Also, during the winter months, I assume you don't close and don't swim so you can use low speed 100% of the time and save there. So although you are not saving money 100% of the time, you will still be better off than a single speed pump so you will only be giving up a portion of the savings. In the end, you will have to make the final decision as to if it is worth the energy savings to risk the panel life. But in my opinion, it is just not worth the risk.

I've had that happen. The thread might have been just on the cusp of falling off page 66 and as you were typing it disappeared. If you go back to page 66 April seems to be the last active month for the forum archives.

Funkyart...I was just enthralled by your bedding thread and couldn't believe I missed it. Wanted an update. But at least once before, I went looking for something on a paint color, found a thread just a couple of months old and posted my response. Then, didn't see the thread on top. I went back and still found the thread in the ranks with my comment in place, but wondered WHY my post didn't bump the thread. Maybe I should ask Garden Web Moderator?

I just experimented with page 67, the last page listed on the Decorating Forum, and posting on a thread from there did work. So I guess Natal is right. If you post on a thread from a page that has already fallen off, it won't show up on the main (first) page. It can still attach to the thread itself, but you would have to do a search to find it, just like I did.

Redbazel - I think if several people started responding to Funkyart's thread, it'd come back towards the top. According to the Information Page here:

"Why aren't the forum messages in order?

The order that messages are listed in is based on an algorithm that both increases the likelihood of at least one response to each message and at the same time keeps active threads (discussions) near the top. Here is how it works:
* New messages go to the top.
* A message with a new response will move to the top, but will not displace a certain number of unanswered messages (usually 4-6.)"

So maybe because there hasn't been much of any recent interest in the thread until now, it didn't pop to the top. Just my guess.

I think once it falls off page 66, it is in cyberspace forever. You can sometimes still locate it by searching and can even post, but it won't go back to page 1.

There's, also, a new GW post about gnomes wreaking havoc. One of their servers is down.

It said that they will have to shut off posting, for a few hours, this afternoon.

I had the same thing happen but my response to an older post was only like on page 20. I didn't reappear on the first page for a day or so and no one else had added a post after mine. I thought it was really strange.

I also have had other weird things happen recently. I put in a new post, saw it a little while later at the top with no response. Went back a little while later and it wasn't there at all, not on page 1, 2, 3k, 4, 5, I stopped looking after that cause the dates were way past. The next morning it was there again with like one response. Now I know posts move down quickly when not responed to but not beyond page 5. I even had my hubby look for it and it was MIA. Seems wierd things have happened recently that make are new to me.
