She doesn't have to love you, but I would ABSO-FRICKING-LUTELY insist that she be civil to you. Tell him that his allowing her to do this crap is not showing you any respect ... abuse and insult by proxy. He's also not helping his daughter any by not having standards for her. He's letting her develop some self-destructive habits that will bite her in the butt in a year or two. One of my uncles married an older woman with 2 daughters. He was all of 22, and they were about 12 or 13 ... one of them sassed her mom and he corrected her. She said "you aren't our dad, you can't tell me what to do" so he picked her up, raised her to his 6'6" eye level, looked her straight in the eye and said "I am not your father, but your mother is now my WIFE, and I will not allow anyone to treat my WIFE with disrespect". Then he lowered her to the floor and walked out of the room.

Can you share pictures of the tiles? Or links? (If you know the manufacturer, you should be able to find them on their site.) Personally, I bring home samples and lay them in the space and contemplate. I'm currently considering ordering a box of the tiles I'm interested in so that I can lay them out and get a "feel" for the overall color in the space. (I'm considering going from a lighter beige cheap laminate floor to a darker charcoal slate.) I actually hit up several tile stores and brought home several samples (4). Most tile stores are happy to loan out (or even give out) samples. Sometimes you can go directly to the manufacturer show rooms (Daltile and Emser come to mind).

If you're a mostly from scratch cook I'd go with the more reliable range. We bought a house where the PO had installed a beautiful high end pro style range for her professional chef son. I think I fell for the house in large part because of that stove! But it became a problem and service calls and parts were costly. The worst part was the unease I felt whenever I cooked a big holiday meal wondering if it would have another issue. I went with an induction range in my remodel that is a joy to cook and bake with. It doesn't have the gravitas of my big gas range, but I would happily trade looks for reliability. The Wolf option sounds good to me.

Is the Wolf in the model range that has the issues with the chipping of the oven enamel? The age of the Heartland range isn't the issue. The condition is. It can be restored. A traditional gas range is a fairly simple machine and should be easy enough to fix. You can get a good enough oven thermometer for less than $10. You can get a timer for a similar price, or pay a little more and get something that fits your decor. Or use your cellphone, tablet, computer, or whatnot. I don't know if they make a wireless or bluetooth oven thermometer, but they might. It might be possible to use or alter a meat probe one, as well. Check out the oven before you fall in love with the Wolf. As to the decor, kitchens always look like the time they were built in. Your marble will be beautiful, but not the kind of marble that would have been authentic. Don't sweat it. Go with what you want to cook on. The cooking equipment, assuming the residents cook, has the greatest variability, and the greatest impact on the way you use your kitchen and how much you enjoy cooking.
