Glass fronts for cabinets - thoughts?
Comments (4)I only got glass in the cabinetry by the dining table area. First, it separated the eating area from the prep area (our space is one big room). Second, my husband didn't want to eat by 'storage boxes' as he calls them. Third, I wanted to be able to show off my Mommom's wedding china and our wedding gifts that used to be on display in our hutch. Basically, I use the glass fronts only for display with the exception of my Mommom's china which is our 'everyday' dinnerware. We gave her our word that it would be used, never boxed and never, ever in the attic. Weirdly enough, every other set of dishes has received cracks, chips, or been shattered. Not a nick on hers. I got only clear glass rather than a patterned glass. The patterned glass was alot more expensive and you can't see thru it without a light behind it. Even then, the objects are obscured. For me, that would have been a waste of money. I don't put any 'junk' in the glass fronts, it is all hidden behind the solid doors....See MoreWhat's in your glass front cabinets?
Comments (22)My dish hutch has water glass doors. I keep everyday stuff here (plates, bowls, glasses, coffee cups, and wine glasses) and a couple of small decorative pieces on the top shelf that's hard to reach. I am OCD about many things and figured I would spend hours lining up all the items to ensure their constant conformity to straight lines and distance to each other. Turns out, its not much extra work. At this point I'm the one who unloads the DE into the cab. The organizational quality could change as the little ones get older and help more....See MoreWhat to put in glass front stove cabinet
Comments (44)imstillchloecat "I'd paint the entire inside of that cabinet black, then use the white pieces. I'm probably in the minority, but that wallpaper looks incredibly dated..." I would politely suggest you read several of my posts above about the fact that the wallpaper is staying. I love the wallpaper and I love that it looks dated. The vast majority of my favorite dishes are all from the 60's and 70's. I have many pieces of vintage clothing that I love. I may have been a baby in the late 70's but the colors I love. They remind me of my favorite time of year which is fall. I'm not one to do something just because other people think I should. While I do appreciate the feedback I've been given it also does get a little tiring to repeat oneself. Before the wallpaper went in the stained back was a dark chocolate and it didn't look good that way either. It was terribly drab. If anyone else wants to mention taking the wallpaper down that is ok, but I'm going to stop repeating my self about it. LOL So rather than responding I'm just going say "see above". On a side note, I haven't had a chance to try some other pieces yet, we were taking out our old pool liner this afternoon so that will have to wait a little bit longer....See More“Paint” inside of glass front cabinets?
Comments (16)I’m not much of a pattern person. So I’m not sure wallpaper makes a lot of sense for me. Especially as high up as these are and as small as they are. A small patter would just get lost and a big pattern wouldn’t show very well, I don’t think. If I went with painted posterboard or foamboard, how could that damage the cabinets? The cabinets are not lighted and running wiring to get them lighted isn’t worth the cost to me. I actually like repeats of objects. If I did the enamel pitchers, I would vary the colors. Really though I think it’s too much money for me at this point for something that would be entirely for looks....See Morebeekeeperswife
