Scrapper 'Baby's First Year' Calendar

Hello all! I am new to scrapping, but I have an idea that I would love to do for my girlfriend's new baby. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I want to make up a blank calendar for the next year, starting with March (her baby is due in March), with a double spread page for each month. I would have it bound together (you can get it done at Staples or Office max, etc. I've done photo calendars before as Christmas gifts to family). The months would be there, but the "picture" side would be blank. After each month (when she has pictures developed), I would like to help her to make up the picture side into a scrap page of what the baby's month was like. I figure that she can actually use the calendar side as she goes along, to write things in the date blocks like "first tooth", "Dr's visit", "first MMR shot", etc. I think maybe we would laminate the calendar after it's done. It could be a memory book and keepsake as well as a type of baby book.

Like I said, I've done calendars before, but I am relatively new to scrapping, and am wondering about the orientation of the page. Most 8x11 pages (the graphics on them) are oriented "portrait" but I want the calendar to be "landscape". Other than all plain backgrounds, any other helpful ideas? I have the DJ Inkers "Keepers" CD with computer artwork that I can use, but it's oreinted to portrait as well. I also have DogByte Creative Photo Album Deluxe software, there are some landscape orientations in it. TIA!!

Also any ideas about what I should include (things that are in baby books)?

Dear Nelda,
How about fist full night of sleep (always a biggy with parents. LOL) first tooth, first haircut, first pet, first home, first playmate, Me and Grandma, or pa, Me and Daddy or mommy, First step or crawling, potty time, etc. Are these the type of things you are looking for? Penny

I have a Winnie the Pooh "Baby's First Year" calendar that sounds like what you are trying to put together, only mine didn't have the scrapbook side to it. I loved this calendar and it was my baby "bible" for the first year. I often refer to it when my friends/family ask me " . . .when did she . . ." I have an easy reference.
Anyhow, at the top of each monthly page it has the following: height, weight, baby's sleeping pattern, baby's eating pattern, and notes with spaces to write in a sentence or two about baby's advances that month. Also included were stickers:
first bath
first smile
religious ceremony
sleeps through night
first tooth
first word
says mama
says dada
first solid food
feeds self
first Christmas
doctor's visit (several of these)
It would be cute if you could include some stickers that illustrated these events that she could stick on the days on which they occurred (doctor's bag or stethescope-doctor's visit, spoon or bowl-first solid food, smiley face-first smile, etc.)

camp, I didn't realize it either until researching online and on gardenweb. "What are these cabbage lopers of which you speak?" (what the heck is a loper?) ... OHHHHHH, those gross lil green caterpillars I keep seeing. Gotcha! This has been fun to read everyone's input. There are too many gems to point them out individually, but I've learned that not only are garden bloggers really nice and helpful (per thyme2garden) but they are pretty funny, too! It's too bad I try to share the humor with my non-gardening friends and family ... (um, ok, everyone not on here!) and they give me the blank "I don't get it," stare. Such is life. I highly recommend the archived "so you want to grow a gardenia" thread... I read that a few months ago and was CRYING it was so funny. (I didn't even know what a gardenia WAS until that thread.) And it has given me the courage to venture into growing flowers this coming year ... once I make the lasagna beds this fall for spring ... and build a few more trellises ... and flip my compost ... and ask the restaurant down the street for coffee grounds ... and.. and.. and.. :P Oh, btw. The tomatoes are starting (in case anyone was troubled by my plethora of non-ripening tomatoes.) ... The gardening gods like me (at the moment ;) ). Thanks again everyone for sharing - Veronica

Hi Lisa, good to see YOU, too. You're right, it was Phoenix, tough little bird. I didn't have HW problems last year because Daddly Blue (new last year, back now) was vigalent..he was amazing! He & Mama had 3 broods & I was expecting a 4th but I think that the female died after the 3rd. The home front is quite different than last season. My Mom's had Alz. for a number of years & she and Dad lived in PA for 60+ years in the house I grew up in. In August, Dad got a diagnosis of lung cancer that had spread & he was dead the next week. Mom then had to go to the hospital, then to a nursing home in PA. Because it's only my brother & me, we decided to move her to GA where she's in a nursing home close to me. She came here on Oct 1st & she was still talking & cheerful. She's declined to the point where she doesn't talk much, sometimes doesn't know me. Basically, she is in the last stage. I visit her most days, maybe a little less than at first. There's not much I can do for her but she's in a great facility & they are taking care of her. I NEED bluebird therapy this year, that's for sure. I've lost both parents in less than a year and it's hard. Thanks for asking & it IS good to see you & some of the others. Blessings, Linda.

Hello everyone, I did receive my calendar on Saturday but I did not find it until Sunday. The mailman left it halfway on the porch. In doing so it got covered with a couple inches of snow. I only found it by accident. The box was soaked but not the contents. Everything inside was dry. Then off to work I go. I did not really had a good chance to look at it until I got off work this morning. I love the calendar along with a notepad, 2 post it pads, a pair of gloves and some Fried Egg gummies and a lollipop. Thank you so much Shirley. Here is a sad (for me) story. The year I fancied myself an almost pro photographer, I decided to make my own calendar and give away as Christmas presents. I can't tell you the hours I spent picking just the right pics, with familial meanings, etc. I gave one to a certain relative with anniversaries, BDs, etc. cutely highlited. I nearly died the next visit after Christmas, when the relative had taken down the calendar and put up the Atwoods calendar that is given to customers for free yearly. My work of art was tucked in an unceremonious corner of the room, ready to be trashed when nobody was looking. Hanging of the Atwoods calendar was not a habit to be broken, despite my best intentions. Knocked the wind out of my photographer soul, hahaha sniff hahaha sniff
