I receive Everyday Food. I didn't renew Chatelaine or Style at Home. All magazines are catering more to fashion and younger styles now, than they used to. I like the recipes and they are getting scarce. They will show a picture of a meal and encourage you to go online to view the directions, and more recipes. Hmmmm if people wanted to go online, they wouldn't be subscribing, so why not keep the recipes in the mag? I received a number of Good Housekeeping, Women's Day and BH and Gardens. They've changed as well since I remember buying them yeeeeaars ago. All kinds of advertising, and less information. I also received a bunch of Taste of Home a couple years ago. I had never heard of them, but really enjoyed them. They were older issues. I now see them on the racks here, and I browsed through them. They've changed significantly as well, and I won't subscribe to that one either.

Thought I would share an update.... I made Ruthanna's apple cake with caramel icing to take to our church function. Only change was- I put chopped pecans in the cake, too. Everybody liked it. The icing is RICH! One guy came by and kept raving about how good it was and how much he loved it until I gave him the leftovers.(ok, I saved a piece for me to bring home. Shhh...) Alfred (Hubby) loved it, but said he liked his cake best without icing. I'm going to try LindaC's apple cake with the cake gravy on the side next. Our son loved it, too. He is happy he got his caramel fix. He said it was even better with bottled caramel sauce drizzled over his piece. Yes he did! (I tried a bite. Wasn't bad.) I sneaked in Walmart without son after church today to grab a couple of things on his Christmas list and found a Fine Cooking magazine in my basket at the checkout counter. :) Jude, My best successes have been with the T&T recipes I've found here. My guys will eat anything that doesn't eat them first! Feeding them is the easy part. The hardest part is filling them up for longer than an hour! Especially our son who is 17, 6'2" and is on the track team. Runs off everything he eats and is ALWAYS hungry! Momj47, I MUST read something all of the time! I can't take my laptop everywhere with me, but I NEVER leave home without a book or magazine. A donation would have been nice, but this was a perfect excuse I MEAN opportunity to expand my horizons in the culinary world AND help my Grandson's school. Win/Win. Hubby will be happy if I get a few good recipes from the subscription. See the part above about not filling them up! Thanks again, everyone. Don't know when I've had so much fun buying magazines. I am leaning toward Creating Keepsakes too. My last several issues of Memory Makers have been disappointing. I kinda enjoy the ads too, I just wish the products advertised were available sooner! I also liked Pebbles in My Pocket until they fell off the edge of the earth. My subscription has been interrupted with no news on when or if I'll get any more. Frustrating!

We are limited here, too. Hobby Lobby has quite a good selection of supplies (much better than Walmart, and their prices on equipment are about the same). However, the best here is a store that 2 fellow addicts just opened about a month ago. It's called Scrapbook Station and they have the prettiest papers, a huge selection of stickers by all the best manufactuers, a really fancy die-cut machine( for a nominal fee, they will cut your pictures in the shape you want), absolutely gorgeous albums--It's just paradise. Their papers and stickers are about the same price as anywhere else, but other supplies (punches, etc.) are really much higher. I won a free crop during their grand opening week, but I'm not going to use it until school's out--I want to stay all day and get the good out of it! i wish we had a Michael's around here. I hear they are about the best as far as chains go. Agree?
