Need tons of supplies.....

OK. I used to work as an artist and photographer...so needless to say I have tons and tons of pictures. I have almost 450 pictures of my daughter's first year of life...and those are the ones I kept.....I have these in an album that I really like, but starting with her first birthday - figuring that I would slow down some on the numbers of pictures...I had to decided to organize them "scrapbook style." (I have my own from 12 on...so it wasn't really new to me). However, the pictures from year one birthday until now (just did year 3 birthday) are in a box.

I am ready to start - and desperate to get going because I am due to have baby number two next week and I don't want to shortchange him.

My problem is that I would like to go somewhere that all the supplies are available to me....work on the book and then pay for the supplies I use rather than just order random sheets of paper, etc. that I mightnot use. My layout is generally determined by the pictures so I don't like to choose papers etc. first. So far, I have noticed that the packages of papers I did order weren't what I wanted when I sat down to do the first few papers.

Is this making sense?

I guess what I am asking is if there are scrapbook shops where you can get everything while you work instead of guessing and then bringing it home...or are there any other suggestions? I live in Fl if that makes a difference.

Congratulations Karen! I'd suggest contacting a Creative Memories (I think CM is online) consultant, since they have lots of diecuts and stickers with them along with tools. They're a home-based business similiar to Tupperware or Longaberger baskets. They do have the individual pages (12"x12") but usually have to order the album for a later date. Mine didn't have the colorful paper, saying something about too many things on the page would weigh it down. I think that's because their albums use "strips" of... bendable plastic to hold the pages together.

If you can get to a hobby and craft store, or even a Walmart, they have pages together in a booklet in different Themes (vacation, baby, etc.) Best of luck!

I have been working on my daughters books and a family book. My oldest is 21, also a grandson to make for. Anyway I know what you mean by having lots of pictures. I've been going to Walmart and only buying as I need, or what is on clearance that I like. Then I don't buy too much and try to stay with the theme I'm working on. Hobby Lobby also has pages you can buy individually. They are 25cents each...alittle more but you can get somthing special if you have a certain idea.

Sorry for enabling you guys :) I've been waiting for Heuchera 'Paprika'. The listing said it will be available after July 1st. After getting that promo email today, I contacted their customer service and asked when exactly it will be available. The rep said: it will be up in 15 min and I have to be fast to get it - they have limited amount. As I mentioned before - I ended up buying 7 new plants, LOL. If you never bought anything from them before, you will be impressed with their packing. Again, the plants are small, but healthy. Overall, I always was pleased. How do I determine if I need a 3 ton or 4 ton air conditioner?

Hi April, In your past posts you stated the house has 2400 sq. ft. It is difficult for anyone on this forum to state what is the correct size for your air conditioner. The load calculation is the only way to do this properly. I would have much more faith in the contractor who took detailed measurements. It is likely the cooling load somewhere between 3 and 4 tons. One contractor may be rounding up, and the other down. The 2-stage Infinity AC would be a good choice. On the low stage it would be operating around 2.8 tons. You would be comfortable and do a great job of removing humidity. How many days a year does the temperature go above 90 degrees in the summer? I personally think a 21 SEER system is overkill for your part of the country. It is unlikely you will ever see a pay back of the additional cost over the 16 SEER unit.

Let's review what you stated: The original load calculation for the house was 3 tons, but the builder allowed you to pay to oversize it. Builders are happy to take money for upgrades whether it makes sense or not. That extra room you were going to add would not have made a significant impact on the load calculation. All the neighbors with the same model have a 3 ton unit. Do you ever hear them complain their AC can't keep the house at 75 degrees on the hot summer days? You other estimates have specified a 3 ton. They can easily sell you a bigger condenser and make more money, but they are choosing not to do this. You live in Florida which suffers from high humidity. This is the primary reason you should not be over sizing the condenser. You want the indoor humidity to be 40-45%. If you over size you will never achieve this level. The statement that really bothers me is that he is telling you that if you buy a single stage then you should get a 3 ton size. His logic about the 2-stage sizing is wrong in my opinion. The primary reason for spending money on a 2-stage AC is for improved comfort. If you get the 4 ton you are wasting your money. You might as well buy a 3 ton single stage. If you really want this questioned answered then have a load calculation done. A reputable contractor should do this as part of his quote.

Your situation really doesn't surprise me, if I have seen it once I have seen it a thousand times. While the bedroom / bonus room have low air as you stated the combination of this problem plus no return or thermostat control in those areas just due to where the equipment is placed or the longer run of those ducts can create comfort issues in the heat of summer. When there is light exposed to what the real problem is gives a better ability to offer things that will rectify the issue. In dealing with hot spots a zone system is a higher cost option to rectify the issue for the simple reason a zone system has the ability to better control a system. The caveat if you will is the 'design'... the other thing is architectural limitations of the structure. While some situations in which a zone system is used can reduce equipment costs, that is not it's only function. If rooms are a considerable difference from the equipment that serves it, a zoned system may be the best method to rectify that issue. The other method would be to relocate the equipment to a more central location within the structure so that the ducting to each area is more equal. In a zone system the equipment will cool / heat each zone independently so while location of the equipment is still some what important, not as much as a non-zoned system. A new return added to a hot spot will help, but it may not rectify the issue 100% for the simple reason the thermostat location now can not sense temperature in that area. If you move the thermostat then the problem is merely shifted to a new area outside the reach of the thermostat. This is how a zone system excels. Provided the design is done correctly. While it's true that 2 speed, 5 speed and full on inverter systems excel in a humid climate, that is not the only purpose of those machines. Because of the high utility cost in the location of where this structure is... it is in the interest of this home owner to choose the most efficient equipment they can. If it were me I would go with Inverter system 20 SEER or higher. (5 speed or full inverter variable) If you can't afford both at once or you want to make sure a company is worth their salt, consider awarding a company with the system that has the problem area first. Tell them if they rectify the issue with the trouble spots you will reward them with replacing the other system as well. If you hire them and it goes terribly wrong, hire in another contractor to fix the problems and then you have something to use leverage to get another contractor to take over the maintenance and service of both systems... the contractor who fixes the problem system gets the right to replace the other system. Additionally given the information of those hot spot problems, trying to drop this to total of 5 tons of cooling would be a disaster. For others that happen to read this thread with similar problems I service the Katy, Texas area.

I try to set aside some of the pictures that I want to work on. When I go to the scrapbooking store I know what kind of colors and themes to look for and I find it a little less difficult to put together. This works for me and I think that everyone just has to get into thier own groove.

I live in FL as well. The scrapbooking shops near me have cropping sessions - you bring your pictures and work in the shop. You can wander the shop and pick what you need for your layouts. You pay when you leave. Some shops let you do this everyday, others have cropping sessions a couple times a month. I found the shops near me through the Creating Keepsakes magazine - the ads and store lists near the back. Good luck.

Congratulations on baby number two! I'm with Hilary, going to your LSS is probably your best bet. You can even use some of their tools for free so you don't actually have to purchase (i.e. punches, xyron machine, etc). Another suggestion? If you have stuff that you don't use, you might consider getting involved in a trade. You can get rid of the supplies you didn't use and get something in return. Good luck.

I am in California, and there is a great store near me similar to the one Hilary described. The store closes at 7:00pm, and from 7-10 they offer workshops. It costs about $5 for the workshop itself, but you can get whatever you need right then and pay for it all when you leave. Good luck!

Were in florida do you live??? there are alot of consultants, CM or independant that have home classes for that main reason. Let me know If I can help. good luck

There's a neat scrapbooking site on the web that sells things individually. I use them lots, picking and choosing online while I'm looking at my pictures!

Mar, I tried and couldn't get to the site either. However, I was able to change that by adding an "n" to the address. Ex. the address showing was "www.southersplash.com" - I added the "n" to "souther" and it worked. Try that.
