I just wanted to ask is anyone is using vellum paper in their scrapbooking and how are you using it. I have some, but am not too sure how to incorporate into my scrapbooking.

I just used some recently as part of a layered matting effect - dark portrait picture, light vellum, black paper. But I couldn't figure out how to attach it without the adhesive showing. Are there special tricks? I'd also tried to print on it but my laser printer tried to chew it up.

Darn...I once visited a website that went into detail about the best way to adhere vellum (meaning, which adhesives work and which don't). But I didn't bookmark it. :o( I'll post it if it comes back to me. But, I do remember reading that some kind of adhesive *spray* works well.

As for ideas on how to use vellum? It makes for such a cool effect on things like: a glass (i.e. in a milk and cookies layout), a fishbowl, balloons, ghosts, butterfly wings. windows, tutus (as in, ballerinas), angel wings, pond water...that's all I can think of right now. It's a great alternative to journal on instead of right on the page. Hope that helps.

Hi Carol, yes, I have an old HP PhotoSmart P1000. But I've never printed on vellum, so I won't be much help. Did the packaging the paper came in not have any instructions? A google search found these tidbits of info: Apparently it isn't as porous as regular paper and won't absorb the ink so it just sits on top of the vellum. Â Go into your printer set-up and adjust it to the Transparency setting. This will put the least amount of ink onto the vellum. Â Go into page set-up in your word processing program and set the margin 1" from the top of the page. This will allow the printer time to get a "hold" on the vellum and reduces smearing. And yes, you can cut a 12"x12" sheet of vellum to 81/2" wide and put it through a laser printer.

I have never printed on vellum but I have a friend who does. She said that if you are using an ink jet printer that there is vellum you can buy that is made specifically for ink jet printing so the ink will not smear. She said you can but it at Michael's the brand is Strathmore. below is also a link that carries it. She also said the only way for it not to smear is to use a laser jet printer. Hope this helps. Hot Off the Press has a booklet of 18 different (not coloured) patterns, 8x10 size. They are lovely, but I find them difficult to incorporate into a page, so haven't used much yet. Look for this one wherever HOTP products are sold.

Thanks for the suggestions - that does help! I never thought of seeing adhesive through the vellum though. Would the clear double sided adhesive tape work, or does that show through too? Thanks - Patty

Its nice if you print some kind of saying or title on a light colored vellum, put it on a dark printed paper that kind of shows through, then punch two holes in the top of both and tie with ribbon.

Saw a good idea yesterday where you take a piece of vellum and layer it over a sheet of background paper with a pattern that is too dark to lay your pictures on. The vellum tones down the colors and makes a neat effect, especially if you have a printed vellum.

I've never used it (but have seen it used in magazines - what a nice touch it adds!) but I did just read an article on it. I want to say it was at Graceful Bee (online). Ok I just checked and they DO have an article on using and gluing vellum, but it's not the one I read yesterday. I'm attaching the link to the Graceful Bee article.

I have been playing with vellum a little this weekend. I found a picture I liked and then just set the vellum on top of it and traced it with a stylus. Colored lightly for shadows with colored pencils. Results are fairly subtle. I'm thinking these will work great on heritage pages.

Vellum is really pretty to dry emboss on...then attach to a darker background and it looks neat.

Just ordered some Hallowe'en punchies from a girl I found on eBay. She has used the vellum with Ghost punchies! She shows them mounted on black paper...looks wonderful! Hallowe'en is a BIG thing in our community, so can't wait to get these!!
