help with a drawer insert
Comments (12)Hi Kate, Yes, about 5" should be plenty wide. I just went through this, measuring for my tray divider space. Is there a way that you can pile up the items that you'd put in each of the four divided areas to ensure they will fit? (I know, maybe a bit over the top, but that way you'll be sure the spacing works. And each space doesn't need to be the same width, too.) I am doing pan dividers in one drawer bank, similar to the photo posted below (sorry for not crediting the GWer from whom I stole this great idea, but a thank you to the person!) Two things I'm doing, which also may be helpful in your case: 1) The dividers are built, but can be taken in and out of the drawer box as one piece. That way, it's easy for me to clean the drawer box and, if I ever want to re-configure the space, it's easy to do so (and there are not routered areas in the box itself. (Sorry, no photo to show you of this.) 2) The divider is several inches shorter than the drawer box. This allows items to rest against the sides of each divider, but also allows taller items to stick up above the dividers, making it easy for me to lift them out. Your kitchen is lovely, I hope you have moved in (or are doing so soon), and are enjoying your new home!...See MoreSchuler drawer cutlery divider- need quick response
Comments (22)Isn't that annoying, a2gemini? If I'd known beforehand that RAS provides Schuler with their organizers....*&^%$! Since my problem is not just that it needs cutting to fit perfectly (as it is too small, depth-wise ) but also that two of them are divided in such a way that there is no space for long cooking utensils like turners and spoons and spatulas, I just *have* to return them....See MoreKnife drawer insert - Help me find this please
Comments (23)"With a knife block (even ones in the drawer, I cannot see what kind of knife it is without pulling it out.. So there is a hunt and peck involved." We use a drawer knife block so I can address this concern. There is a minor amount of hunting and pecking. Our steak knives go in the top half, our chef knives (2) in the bottom half, our bread knife is always on the right, our paring knife always on the left. You do have to be careful putting the knives away, but no more so than putting than in a counter knife block or probably even on a magnetic rack to avoid the other blades....See MoreHow wide is 'too wide' for drawers
Comments (19)I had a sidewall failure. It is important to realize the weight of the drawer and insert count towards total weight (38 lbs) I asked and was told I could put 75 lbs in the drawer. I weighed my dishes and almost exactly 75 lbs (well I weighed a place setting and multiplied *12 for the villeroy and *6 for the pantry set) Here is the old thread http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg1020404519236.html Believe it or not- still not resolved. We decided too risky to take out the cabinet. They are putting in a 2 level drawer. The company paid to add reinforcement screws and the new drawer will have heavy duty glides if I ever see it. I do have a 37 inch bank of drawers as well with pits and pans. I love the big drawers for function. I don't have to keep opening drawers to figure out what is in each drawer....See Moretmy_jax
