I like the idea for creating a thread for our favorite magaines. I just bought my 1st copy of Memory Makers Magazine and fell in love. Great articles on layouts,lettering, etc. Noticed on page 120 an ad for cable tv channel TNN. It is channel 57 in my area. It seems they have a program w/ scrapbooking techinques on weekdays called

"Your Home Studio" that features shows on photo journaling, punch art, coluzzle, photo kaleidescopes and many others. It lists the days but not the times so I'll have to get out the program guide for TNN. If you get this channel on your cable server check it out. Gonna have to set the VCR to record some of those shows. Also had a terrific article on creating

name pages. I am hooked on this magazine now. I hope it will

be as good in future issues.

Right now my favorite is Paper Kuts. And the nice thing is that I can go into Michaels and buy it with the 40% off coupon so I get it for only $2.97!!

One of my favorite features in this magazine is the remake section -- people send in pages and Jill Rinner (of paper doll fame) remakes the pages. I love seeing the sometimes-subtle differences she does and how much that little bit can make a HUGE difference in teh outcome of the page.

I also like the fact that I see quite a bit of CM pages/products used since that's what I mainly use.

Which month is the "remake" section in?? I must have missed seeing that!

There were 23 FEMA lots in New Hartford after the flood of 2008 ... people in these homes could either not afford to rebuild or have enough insurance to rebuild or just gave up on another flooded home...it means they took a 'buy-out' from FEMA ...so those lots can never be built on again...this was a 500-yr flood & affected many homes that never ever have flooded...but many of those that took the buy-out had flooded before ...but not on the main levels like this 2008 flood! So, when FEMA buys you out ...say like $25,000 or something I think may have been an avg (I don't know for sure)...then it becomes property of the city but cannot be built on to live in or have a business. The lots we are restoring have been this Vets Memorial, 4 Season Perennial Garden, Town Square Gazebo lot & a Community Gardens lot. We have written grants, raised money ...many of it donations & that's how we are doing it...we are wearing down as it is many retired people working long & hard...but we promised our community that we would have the 3 lots done by 1st week of June for the local yearly 'Beaver Creek Days.' It's all very worthwhile to all of us & brings a sense of pride back into the community. Thanks for asking, luvs & I appreciate all the comments from you 'Holiday-ers!' Jeanne S.

Every month (or bi-monthly, whichever is the case) I pick up the new issues of Memory Makers, Paperkutz, and Creating Keepsakes. You'd think I'd just subscribe to one!! But I can't decide which one I like best. I remember seeing a "free issue" thing in one of the mags, but I can't remember what one it was. I take free issues of any mag I can get my hands on. :)

Seeing as how you are a beginner, and considering the fact you are going to be travelling, you should start small. Do a small album, perhaps an 8x10, with maybe only about 20 pp. The most important thing to remember when scrapbooking is to buy acid-free materials, including the album. Things to include in your album for your trip: Photos of your home, your family, your friends, your pet if you have one, your leisure activities, special places in your life, interesting places around where you live, what makes your town and/or country unique etc. Hope this gives you some ideas. Once you get going on it, I bet the ideas will just start rolling. If you are really stuck as to where to start, I would suggest picking up a copy of Creating Keepsakes magazine, or Memory Makers magazine. This will give you hints, tips, and basic info, as well as layout ideas. In order to keep from getting bogged down, remember the KIS rule--Keep It Simple! good luck and have lots of fun!

Mar, I have the Feb/March issue and it's called "Improve Your Grove" on page 12. They redid 2 different people's pages. They show only 2 before and afters though (I love to see the differences!), but they talk about what they did on several pages. In the Dec/Jan issue it's on page 22.

I have been really disappointed with my last three issues of Memory Makers. I used to pore thru that mag for hours now it seems like a couple flips and I'm done. They used to be my favorite because they featured more 12 x 12 layouts than the others but now I am leaning toward Creating Keepsakes. I like their new simpler style.

I am tempted to cancel my subscription but I know I would end up buying it off the stand anyway. I am so addicted to this hobby that I snatch up everything I can get ahold of about it. My favorite one is the Aug/Sept 97 issue with the punch art and ABC albums. Another thing that irritates me about them is they advertise their punch books to be released in April and you can't find them until July. Both books were that way. Irritating!
