Recommendations for 'How to Books'?

Sorry in advance if this is a repeat question. I think I remember seeing a discussion on "books" about scrapbooking but I can't seem to locate the information. I think it may be embedded in another post. I've finally started working on scraping...made "starter" books for both grandmothers and have really gotten into this. Have been collecting scrapbook paraphernalia since my son was born 3&1/2 years ago and have practically kept EVERYTHING since he was born. So I have A LOT of stuff! Finally managed to conquer my paralysis and the overwhelming "where to start?" feeling. My wonderful husband was a dear and bought some reference books for me as a Mother's Day gift...one on 'Photo Craft' and one on scrapbooking by 'Hot off the Press.' I'm sorry to say that I'm not terribly impressed with alot of the designed pages in the 'Hot off the Press' book. But I don't want to hurt my husband's feelings by taking it back, besides, it seems to have good ideas and suggestions. Does anyone have any recommendations for reference "how to" books? We love books and reference/idea books and so to me, it makes sense to buy a few. But I'm a newbie and maybe this isn't the way to go...to spend money. Any comments? Suggestions? Thanks. I love this site and really really enjoy reading all your comments and I feel like I'm learning so much from you all! Don't have any friends (yet) that do scraping so i feel like this is a place I can go to feel like I'm part of a group. :-)
