CM new Oval Cutter-- how does it compare?

Have any of you tried the new oval cutter by Creative Memories? How does it compare to other oval cutters? Is it like a Coluzzle? How easy/accurate/etc.? Thanks!

it would be interesting to have a comparison of the different oval cutters which exist. I plan to buy one soon, and I would like to know which to choose. and the prices too.

I have the oval cutter by cm and I love it. It is very easy to use. However this is the only brand I have so as far as comparison I am not much help. I do like it a lot, I have to recommend it.

We have somewhere around 140 sf of granite in the kitchen; big kitchen with big island plus a buffet separating kitchen and family room. So the $14k price from the second place is about $100/sf (for both material and install). This is a quote for the exact type of granite we chose - we went to yards to look at various slabs and chose the Blue Eyes as the one we liked the look of best. Then our GC sent out the dimensions of our requirements to the two shops for quotes for our specific requirements. From what I have seen/read the Blue Eyes is on the expensive side, it reads more as a gray with blue highlights than blue, but it does have the blue which I guess adds to the expense. But DH is in love with it... The Costa Esmerelda slabs are cheaper - $8500 installed for 4 slabs. I think we're about 110 sf there (quote includes slab granite for shower walls in addition to counter and tub) so about $77 per square foot. I think what we've chosen is on the more expensive side for granite; funny how it seems to work out that way. Original allowances from our contractor were $10k for kitchen and $4k for bath, so we're over that (bath one was for granite countertop and tile shower, but I'm really leaning towards the granite for both and no grout!)

Thank you for all the info. I purchased the Creative Memories Cutting System with oval today. I haven't used it but I'll start in this weekend. I found a consultant on the Creative Memories website for my area. Very nice woman and helpful. The cost was $38.00 plus tax. She left me a catalog for other interests I might have. She asked if I was interested in classes, etc. and at this time I'm not. She was fine with that. Good experience. Can't wait to try my new tools.

Billie, Don't get discouraged with your oval cutter. I have cut some great ovals with it. I just cut an oval in an oval out of black paper, put some large circles and a red bow on it then mounted it over a really cute pic of my three year old niece with Minnie Mouse. It looks great. I have found that it does work best with heavier paper and especially on a cutting mat. I first tried it using a magazine as a mat and did get a lot of bunching of my paper. I have also discovered that it helps to sort of hold your paper while turning. I just got the guides a while ago and am enjoying it even more now that I know exactly where I am cutting. Melis - that is one beautiful Staub! Why don't you use it? Mine Staub is a basic round with a standard lid but I have a LC oval. Scrappy - as others have said - the oval works just fine. I have used mine on my Wolfie and it worked great. I braised with it and even used as a slow cooker on my induction. One time, I was using as a slow cooker but was chicken to leave it alone while I ran to the store, so I popped it into my speed oven on high warm and found out I have another option for a slow cooker.

I also have the oval cutter set and the circle set too. Before all I had were the templets, the CM sets are so easy to use. Love them

I must be one of the few that hated the CM oval cutter. I love the one by Fiskars, very easy to use.

I don't have the CM oval cutter, but I've used it and I must say that I hate it. I wasn't comfortable with it AT ALL. My CMC told me that it took her many tries before she became comfortable with it too.

I've never tried any other kind - I still just use templates and cut them out by hand. To me, it's easier than trying to fiddle with that awkward contraption CM came out with.

Ok, here's what I don't like about it - I find that it's not a smooth "swing" around the arcs, it leaves sort of a lip around the edge of the picture, and it often leaves a little "hangnail" (for lack of a better word) where you meet up at the end with where you began. I wish they had figured otu a way to make an oval cutter just like their OLD circle cutter - I loved that thing!

I'm a CMC and have to admit that I was disappointed with it when I first tried it. However now I love the CM circle/oval cutter. I also had troubles with leaving the little snip at first. I got several 'extra' pics to practice on and have no problems now. I found it works best if I tilt it slightly forward (in the direction I'm cutting), then run around the template. Also, don't push too hard!! I also made that mistake when I first started using it. I finally found out that it didn't take all that much pressure.

Plus, now there's a new blade to go with it so you get that many more sizes of circles and ovals. Plus, now you can make perfect DOUBLE MATS! I love that!
