My co-worker saved money on her wedding

She discovered that the price of certain services went down if the happy couple offered to write a check instead of using a charge card.

The rented a large house for a week, had the wedding at the house, and then honeymooned there.

I bought my dress for under $200. There was a department store that carried formal wear that was going out of business. I found a dress I really liked, tried it on and bought it. It was the only dress I tried on. It was pretty and I knew I wouldn't find a better price so I just bought it! Now to be honest it was 1992 . . .

Her son is adjusting well. He helps her out more around the house too. And she is lucky she lives next to her mom and dad so they help her out too (like cleaning her cat box since she was told not too while she is going through chemo). She said she never realized how much her son loved her until she was going into surgery and he was holding her hand the entire way. Terry has a great sense of humor and a good attitude so I'm sure that helps in putting her son's mind at ease. She strikes me as the type of mom who would cry alone so as not to upset him. She is also a little overwhelmed with the cost of everything but she is thankful when insurance covers the cost of her wig/hair pieces and the clinic gives her samples of extremely expensive medications. Keep those prayers comin'!

I guess I mind in the fact that her mistakes have never been addressed w/ her and when they've tried her in a different position it's always been prefaced in a 'Hey - would you be interested in_______position?'. Now I'm not one for hand holding by any means but I do believe that one should be given a chance to correct mistakes by knowing what they are. When either my direct boss or I have noted an ongoing issue w/ her we've taken the steps to alert her immediate supervisor which is our Office Manager ('The Big K') over all of the offices. What I get back is a list of questions (seriously a list) of how things work in our office. Worst manager that I've ever had anywhere but the big boss hides his head in the sand about it. Big K bleeds money out of the seams of this business and the big boss seems totally and blissfully unaware. Direct boss and I are convinced that we are in the midst of a secret buy out over the course of the next few yrs. These are some of the many reasons my direct boss wants to open her own practice and take me w/ her. This is the first time that I've ever worked in a small independantly owned place of business. What a difference!!!!!! Whew! Suero - LOL! I can't tell you how many times people across both the main office and ours have wondered about 'special friends'. There seem to be a few! Eeeewwwww.

Do a google search on "frugal weddings" and check the parties forum for wedding tips. You can made very inexpensive and easy bouquets for the bride and attendants from long-stemmed flowers tied together with pretty ribbon (very romantic) I did this from the grocery store floral dept--VERY inexpensively!! The throwaway bouquet could be made out of a standard bouquet put in a holder made from a plastic cool whip container (hole in the middle) with lace on top so no one can see. Floral tape around the stems. Buy your dress off the racks or used. Make sure it fits in the shoulders and have a friend alter it. If too short--add lace. Don't buy the dyed shoes--just plain white or off white shoes and add a shoe buckle you ornament with pearls or rhinestones, etc.. Dollar store disposable cameras on each table for guests. Decorate the tables with hand painted wine glasses with tinsel spilling out of them and those flat stones used in floral arrangements sprinkled down the middle of the tables. One lucky guest at each table takes the glass home. You can get wineglasses for zip at dollar stores and yard sales (because they don't have a set) to paint.

When my daughter got married (two years ago) we saved quite a bit on the open bar. We knew we didn't have a lot of big drinkers and we had a lot of elderly folks who didn't drink any alcohol at all, so we paid per drink instead of per person. We gave the bartender a dollar amount that when it was reached they would come and tell us and we would decide whether to keep the bar open or not. We never even reached that first amount. They did not even charge us for soft drinks. Of course the venue has to agree to this, but it doesn't hurt to ask. We saved about $1500.00. The down side of paying this way is there will always be a few people who think you are paying a set amount per person and will try to help you get your moneys worth by overindulging. You really need to have an idea of what kind of drinkers will be there.

You can also save significantly, if you have the wedding at a less popular time, a friend had a Fri evening wedding rather than Sat. or Sun, and the price was SO much lower that way.

Another friend did the destination wedding thing (Jamaica), and it was astounding how much LESS that cost her than having the whole wedding blast. Of course, it was much smaller, fewer could go, but they had a wonderful time for not that much $$$.

My daughter and her fiancÃÂ© won a contest at a wedding expo and they paid for everything. Only downside was, the expo gave only two choices for everything, either this or that. Still, it was the best possible wedding for the lowest cost. (I pitched in for the wedding gown because I wanted her to have a real one, not a rental.)
