Comments (28)Thanks for the nudge Breezy and Fishies! It's long over due. See my link below... drbeanie2000 - you better believe it! Yes, I love my kitchen (and the rest of the house) mostly because it's all mine and we are settled. All the little things I agonized and fretted over don't seem so worrisome now. Actually, all the little things I own and will go on the "in the next house" list. ha! All in all, I am happy will all my choices and am thoroughly enjoying it all! What more could I ask for, eh? Comments (13)i think a forum is good for queries that collect responses over a long time period, measured in weeks not days or hours. if there is not a lot of traffic on this forum this weekend, wait wait and wait. afaik, one can do 2cm, and afaik, there will be people talking about risk in both cases. Some people, who are not used to any discussion of risk, do not get it. Once risk is raised as a subject, they get reduced into something less than they once were. Risk is not what will happen in the future, it is a means to evaluate possible outcomes. Trying to overkill once you learn a bit about risk often leads to problems. NOw, one company said one thing about 2cm thickness. Hmmm. Sounds like they are deliberately pulling FUD tactics on you so you end up becoming trigger happy. ("FUD" means that your mind is now inhabited by irrational emotions that make you into a buyer, not an information-seeker, and a buyer who will go with anyone who reassures you somehow. FUD stands for fear, uncertainty and doubt.) Just tell that one guy that millions of people have uncracked counters of either thickness. I hereby submit one unit of reassurance to your account. I do this without selling you a product....See MoreAny Long Island cabinetry/countertop recommendations?
Comments (20)Hi there, My friend used Kitchen Source, rt 109 Farmingdale, Contact is Charley, and her kitchen is lovely, price was fair (as fair as you can get in the very expensive NY markek). I am using a small cabinet maker in Ronkonkoma and my perfectionist carpenter is installing. we haven't got the specific info yet, so when I do I will pass it on. We also have an oldish house -- 1938. Consumers was not that great price-wise but good to start to give you an idea about price. However, their design stays with them unless you order the cabinets. For a nominal fee, Homedepot will give you the plan of how many cabinets you need (I think it is $40 or so) which is fair if you are using their services. These plans are helpful if you end up going with a small cabinet shop. I also hear good things about Bruce Cabinetry in northport. We got our countertop at Cancos. Expensive. We ordered our walnut top from The hardwood lumber company. Love the two toned idea. Good luck to you. Comments (9)Thanks for the feedback everyone. We moved this past year and yes, it’s a terrible kitchen layout. Unfortunately I know that my husband will not ever do a total kitchen remodel. We just don’t know how long we will live here to make it worth it. We made the mistake of doing WAY to much to our last house and ended up moving after only 1.5 years. We will be rotating the cooktop so that it is still in the island but instead face the fridge. There’s no way to put it elsewhere without getting all new cabinets, I tried. I see what you are saying with the grey, and maybe I should have said lighter counter as I’m not tied to grey, just something a little brighter. Is there any lighter granite that works well with Ooba Tooba? My main question is still do I only do the island counter or do I do the entire kitchen’s counters to be uniform?...See MoreVertise
