is this tile install quote high or on target?
Comments (2)Our contractor allowed about $8, and I am just floored by it coming out basically double. I am not sure if it was just under quoted in the original bid or if these contractors are trying to milk us, knowing we are coming up against time constraints and concerned about the level of finish. Or if they are just that good and that is what they charge. I got the breakdown for what they are charging for the extra cuts - about $250 to cut all the 36" down to 18, which doesn't seem crazy. So I guess I should revise the overall question to be that we are laying 12 x 24 tile (about 160 sq ft) and 5x18 tile (about 120 s ft) - so is $15.50 a sq ft a lot for this or not?...See More$10/ft to install checkerboard marble 12' tile? Is this high?
Comments (6)Your quote could be high, and it could be in the right ballpark. It depends on exactly the amount of labor you are talking about. Stone is always higher to lay than ceramic because it's trickier to work with. Does that include all of the prep? A floor that will have stone tiles on it will need to be twice as stiff as one that has wood so additional underlayment may be needed or even beefing up the home's joists with some blocking. Is this a straight or diagonal pattern? Diagonal means a lot more cutting and more time. Does this include sealing? Marble is porous and will abosrob stains unless kept sealed. Bear in mind that sealing will not prevent etching when it comes into contact with any acidic substance. This means that your installer has to be careful in cleaning grout off of the tiles as any regular acidic grout cleaner will etch it. It's usually better to seal the stone after it's been installed but before the grouting occurs. This is a PIA for the installer and adds time to the process. You pay for the extra time always on any project. Get more quotes, and make sure that the same exact labor and products are being compared....See Moretrane install prices seem way too high
Comments (3)I live in S Florida and currently have an 18yr old Trane XE1100. It's about to give out. Just received a quote to replace both handler and compressor. Needing a 5 ton. I have a quote for 5ton XB14 and a TAM7A048H41SA. Is this a good matched set? I searched and the TAM7 model above only says its 4 ton. I assume the TAM7A0C60H51SA for 5 ton will blow more volume of air? Also this TAM7, I understand is like a refigerator with inner walls and no exposed insulation. Any thoughts on longevity and reliability? Here is a link that might be useful: Example of Air Handlers...See More$460 installation quote to install double oven... too high?
