struggling with PSP

I have learned & remembered enough to at least do basic stuff.

I'm using PSP on a Windows 7 computer & some of it doesn't work like it should.. PSP 9 seems to do the best but I like 7 :-(

I lost all my filters & extras. I don't even know how to put shadows on things anymore. It's rough getting old :-)

I'm sure I could find some again but not sure they would work (probably would on 9) Then again I don't even remember how to install them.

Right now I'm working on Xmas & now a memorial page for one of the residents we lost a couple days ago. My 1st memorial page but afraid it won't be the last. The family is going to give me somethings to scan.

If anyone can give me any ideas to help me please do.

Hi Dar,
The type of work I do on PSP7 is simple where I don't use the filters and plugins like I think you are. Therefore I would not be of much help in that department.
I just use the 3D effects for things like the drop shadow and inner bevel when working with fonts.
I use the Tools listed on the left side of the screen a lot.
If you have a question on what you want, I may be able to help but then again may not.
Don't feel bad. I can't remember most of what I was able to do with psp and am happy I did print out some instructions to where I have to look up to see. That is if I can understand what I wrote down. "LOL"

Hello Elaine from Canada. Welcome to the best forums on the Net.I am learning PSP7 too.It is a difficult program but it is very powerful and one can do so much with it!! Besides the great things you will learn here, I would like to also direct you to the Graphics and Scanning forum . Graphics and Scanning are people who are knowledgeable pro's and those like me who are working to learn PSP7 and are sooooo, helpful. They can lead you to great tutorials and help if you get stuck. Is this where you are learning, or another online Class?? You will find people there are as nice and helpful as they are here...I have made so many wonderful friends here...like Robin...Love YA CF ...And you can not beat Tiger..she was my first helper on here !! I'm late to this party, but have you check to see of there were any updaters/patches for this version of PSP? I haven't used this program since v1, but they used to be really on the ball. Oh wait.... Corel has hold of this program now, doesn't it? Oh well, maybe there are still some updaters out there for you to find. I added a link for one I happened to find. Thank you Sue, Yes, didn't Bev come up with a darling idea? Teri, You did great. How many hairs do you have left on your head? I had to buy a wig! You did better than I did when I was about to call it quits! I didn't know what she meant half the time. It wasn't 'til I switched to PSP 8 and towards the end of the tute, that I discovered the COPYMERGED!!!! Can you imagine of how long I have been using PSP, I never came across that feature? I just now checked to see if PSP7 has it. I didn't know what she meant by that 'til I accidently saw it after I experimented my own way of getting that santa in AniS like I knew it should be. AND----in PSP7, the stars don't show up and I was confused there! I also wondered what she meant by "replace" in the lasso step? Found it in PSP8 but wanted to know why? Couldn't find the answer so I seen what it does. Makes the ants hug the letter when you click on the letter. If you want to know one of the stupid things that confused me was, she said to lasso each of the letters but didn't "hold my hand" and tell me-----oh, I am not going to tell you what I thought and did. For sure you would choke on your coffee. After struggling through for the ( ) time, coming up with the above, I plan on doing it over armed this time. :) ~Urlee~

This is a very old post, but I think I know why your Filters and other elements of Photoshop disappeared. I think it is because after you installed Photoshop, you moved it (dragged it) to the desktop instead of creating an alias on the dock. This happened to us on some of our iMac computers in our high school digital classes. It took us a while to figure out that when a student complained that their Filter menu was no longer available, they had tried to move Photoshop to their desktop a la PC style setup, instead of creating an alias on their dock, and somehow this action truncated the program, rendering some of its features unusable.

The solution is to uninstall the current Photoshop and then reinstall it.
