I would have to disagree with the post that included "Scam beware Cancer Insurance Family Heritage"... "This cancer insurance is a scam."..."...You are much better off not buying this insurance. Put this money in a bank or invest it. You get the interest and get all the money if you can't fund your bank account after 7 years or whenever. Change your diet, exercise and minimize your risk to cancer. Even if your a compulsive smoker. work in an asbestos factory and drink out of styrofoam cups... Don't get this policy, they payout is not worth the premiums. This insurance company is all about screwing you out of your money." My mother in law who has always been pretty healthy (or so we thought), began her policy with Family Heritage in Oct 2010. She was over age 55 so her premiums were kind of high (I thought). With the highest paying cancer coverage, her monthly premium was $108/month. On Dec 17, 2010, she was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer (stage IV) with metastisis. She passed away Oct 27, 2011. From December 2010 to May 2011, she had already received over $30,000 in payments from Family Heritage, and we are awaiting the final payment for the May through Oct (expecting atleast another $17,000). If you are at risk for cancer, it is a good idea! And I know that $47,000 is not much considering the bills for chemo, hospital stays, icu, doctors, etc; but, if you are lucky -as my mother in law was- you will have very good health insurance that covers all of those bills except for office co-pays after your deductible has been met each year. So all of that was hers. Also, if a person dies within the 25 years, the beneficiary receives the life insurance that goes with the policy. So if you pay on it 5 years, don't use it, then pass away, the beneficiary gets the life insurance. However, as in the case of my mother in law, since they paid her well more than the life insurance, her beneficiary did not receive the life insurance. Also, if she had been paid $3,000 from the company, the life insurance amount would have been reduced by the amount paid out. For example: 15,000 life ins -3,000 cancer ins paid to insured= 12,000 life ins payout to beneficiary. Not everyones going to have the same situation (otherwise they would go bankrupt), but I do know that this is what she benefited from her policy and her kids did as well. We got a policy for ourselves as well!

Update - Thank you all so much for your great ideas. I never expected this kind of response and so appreciate it. We are till working on this...debating whether to try to repair the chair ourselves or raising hell in the ways you all suggested to have it all sent back. First things first...the salesperson who waited on me hasn't been back to work since the delivery. She will be in on Tuesday. She has been on vacation. The store manager has been in NY. The asst. manager won't make a move until the manager returns from NY. So...it's on hold until Tuesday for sure. I did file a complaint with the TX atty general's office. They are looking into it and have notified Macy's about the complaint. I;ve only been in TX a couple of years and was not aware of the TX Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Thanks a lot for that info. And, to clarify a few comments.Yes, I did buy from a real Macy's store that has a furniture department. It wasn't an outlet store. Yes, I did use my macy's card at the store when I purcahased the furniture. They do take credit cards here. I did not order it online. Of course, hindsight is everything, but by using my Macy's card I got a discount. So, I bit. I may call on you all to help in the ways you suggested before it's over with. I truly feel thankful for all the interest and suggestions...the members of this forum are the best...always so helpful and friendly. I would have never thought of half your suggestions. Answer This question was answered on March 7, 2019. If it seems like you’re getting a lot more calls that are either a robocall, a scammer or someone trying to sell you something, you’re not imagining it. According to call statistics from companies that monitor unwanted calls, the percentage of calls has risen steeply over the past year from 3.7% of calls in 2017 to nearly 30% in 2018. What’s worse is they predict by the end of the year, you can expect about 50% of the calls to your cell phone to be a nuisance call. Why It’s Accelerating One of the biggest reasons that we’re experiencing a huge increase in robocalls is that the technology to call millions of phones every day has gotten extremely cheap and easy for just about anyone with a minimal amount of tech skills. Why the Do Not Call Registry is Useless It doesn't hurt to register you phone number(s) with the https://donotcall.gov registry, but don’t expect it to do much for you. Only legitimate marketing companies that are willing to follow the rules will comply with this registry. If you do get a call you’d like to report, you can do so here: http://bit.ly/2Ut3E6K A growing number of the junk calls and text messages are coming from scammers that are operating outside of the U.S. through VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) so they’re not going to bother paying attention to the registry. Also, the registry does not apply to political calls, non-profits and charities or polling organizations and any company that you’ve either done business with or sought information from in the attempt to do business. Those businesses can call you for up to 18 months after your last interaction. Neighbor Spoofing You may have also noticed that a lot of the calls are coming from your same area code and some times with the same prefix as your phone number. This spoofing of the caller ID is done automatically by the robocall systems to make it look like someone in your area is calling you in hopes that you’ll answer the call. Never Say ‘Yes’ One of the many scams used by these robocalls is focused on recording your voice saying ‘yes’, which they can use as your voice signature for future scams. They’ll usually try at the very beginning of the call by asking something like “are you the homeowner” or “can you hear me?”. What Can You Do? The first thing is stop answering any call when you don’t recognize the number; let it go to voice mail. If you have one of the newer Google Pixel phones (2, 2XL, 3 or 3XL), there is a cool little utility in your Phone app that will allow you to screen calls using the Google Assistant – Google is working on making it available for other Android devices. The telecom industry is working on a caller verification protocol, but until then, there are apps available that will at least try to determine if a call is potential spam, including HiYa (https://hiya.com), YouMail (https://youmail.com), NomoRobo (https://nomorobo.com) or RoboKiller (https://robokiller.com).

"Pending" is another way to say "on hold". If this federal return was filed in April or earlier, it now being August, a refund should have been processed many months ago and there's something not normal going on. They can go to an IRS office and try to get more information at the Taxpayer Assistance Center (most require advance appointments, done online). Or they can just wait. If she's unemployed and they could use the money, there's an obvious better choice to go with. nickel, I know your suggestion is informed and well intentioned but keep in mind the IRS probably puts up with more needless guff from individuals than do most other agencies. They deal with too many ill-informed and misinformed taxpayers who come out of the box with belligerent attitudes. Yes, it's not perfect and has its own issues (many a result of inadequate funding) but I suspect most people in Congress get dozens of constituent complaint letters every month. I'll guess the writers get a polite reply that includes a helpful taxpayer services phone number to call. And the matter may go no further for all but the most significant or egregious cases.
