Are Viking Pro Ranges really that bad??
Comments (53)Wow Viking is the worst. I bought all of my Viking appliances right before Covid hit and had to keep them in storage for about a year. Since install my oven doesn’t work and I had to replace all of my gas burners because my daughter had tomato soup boil over. All 4 burners were toast because one boil over!! That was over a thousand dollars in repair. But wait it gets better now my dishwasher won’t work. One day while unloading it I tipped over a bowl with water in it and the lights in the dishwasher automatically went off and I haven’t been able to use it since. I tried to switch the breaker off to make sure it wasn’t a reset issue. These appliances were the worst decision in my life and have caused me nothing but agony since....See MoreViking - Worth It?
Comments (27)Burntfingers - we faced the same situation in November. Went to order the Elux Icon and the dealer had the Viking DEDO530 on the floor that Viking had discontinued. Not sure if that is the unit you are looking at. Dealer offered it for a little less than the than the Icon. Asked the board here if anyone had experience with Viking electric ovens as it seemed most of the negative comments concerned the gas ranges. We received no responses with direct experience. In the end we took a gamble and bought the Viking, figuring if it was a bad unit, someone on GW would have reported in. Unfortunately, the installers dropped it when delivering so installation did not occur until December. The dealer's techs said we could not order a complete door so they would order the individual parts and assemble a replacement door. While the door worked, it was crooked and you could see the insulation. The dealer's techs came out twice to try to satisfy and were not acceptable. Finally, my wife called Viking and the CS said they would definitely be able to ship a new door intact. The point is that we felt the CS of Viking was good in our instance (as this is also a negative written often). As to performance, my wife and daughter love it. For baking, items come out very consistent once they got used to the convection features. Our only experience has been with 27" ovens that did not have convection features. This is a 30" with convection, so that in itself would be an improvement with any choice made. I have not used the infrared broiler yet (which is why I thought we should get it) but the convection roast uses the broiler and that feature I have used with good results. The cooling fan noise is less than the Maytag it replaced. Also we have used the self-clean function once and we had no problems with the electronics. The outside of the cabinet is warm (I never felt the cabinet with the old oven so I have no comparison), but I put a 30" oven in a 30" cabinet. It met all of Vikings recommendations for clearances and I monitored the inside of the cabinet for potential scorching a lot early on (and during the self-clean cycle). At this point there is no damage being done to the cabinet, so my early concerns of excessive heat from the sides have been alleviated. Anyway, very long post to say that we are very satisfied with this unit and are glad we chose it. Good luck in your decision....See MoreViking is a lemon right out of the box!
Comments (55)ci_lantro - Thanks for the info. Duh! I know CO is odorless and I even have a CO detector. lol willtv - That is a great idea, thanks! I will check on that. shappy - I will find out if ignitors are covered on the extended warranty. babushka/breezy/Angie - I checked the manual and there is a burn off specified for one hour at 450. Thanks! francoise - I actually made my special scratch recipe of triple choc chip with walnuts. :) kaismom - Thanks. It seems to be working just fine right now. I hope it continues to do so! eleena - Check out the link below. The company name is Storm Copper and they're in TN. I thought the prices were pretty reasonalble and it's free shipping. Arrived with no problems at all. Their customer service was great. The piece I bought is 36" x 36" plain 304 stainless, but if you want a pattern they have those too. You can even buy a sample set that has one of each of the patterns to see them in person. I thought better of the patterns because of where I was putting it. I didn't want a textured surface behind my stove even though some of them are nice looking. Too hard to clean. The diamond/quilt patterns remind me of hot dog or lunch carts! lol You might be able to get a better price if you can find a local stainless fabricator to cut a piece for you. Comments (14)My experiences have really all been good. Generally, the quilt shops in my life have really made an effort to be welcoming and chatty and create an atmosphere of a social club. That includes the 3 shops in my area in LA and the 2 wonderful ones in Vancouver. Browsing and buying nothing or a spool of thread or a notion is common and they know that and also know people will be back when the time for fabric purchases comes along. But times have changed too and only one shop will cut a FQ from the bolt for you. And I don't know of a shop that will still cut 1/8 yd. Haven't seen a FE in many, many years. They also know that everyone shops all the shops. One (the one nearest me) specializes in Civil War era and 30s fabrics. They don't have any purples or teals at all and no batiks. How could they not know and support that people need to go elsewhere for that stuff? I have heard from teachers that they don't like the largest, most well stocked shop. And, in truth, sometimes the ladies there can be moody but I've never been treated badly. And once when I was taking a class the teacher told me a story about the shop that I loved most that has been gone for 25 years. Their stock of antique buttons and imported French ribbons was fantastic. Their fabrics and samples were to die for. But apparently the woman who owned the shop was a tyrant to her help. And sometimes, the teacher said, to customers. She reported many occasions when the owner would refuse to sell a fabric to someone because she wouldn't have used it with the other selected fabrics. Sounds mighty eccentric to me but working in that environment was pretty intolerable the veteran with the scars said. I wonder if, as some of you are saying, the stress of how business is gets reflected in the service. The shops here do well and have a flow of customers and a roster of classes. ...at least for now. Two of the locals have cancelled classes I was the only one to register for....See Moresmtebo61
