Many thanks, y'all. The pearls for hair was DD's idea. Wish it was mine, and yes, she looks a bit Cleoish. The lips I screwed up - left them blank, but it looked awful, so I filled them in w/joint compound and painted them. I have a couple more of these stands, but won't be sooooo anxious to work on either of them. This was a rush to a project when I finished the pet grave marker. Shows me not to rush the inspiration - there wasn't ANY, and it shows. Thanks, anyway.

Alana, I grow both Munstead Wood and Princess Alex. I absolutely LOVE, love, love these roses. So do my neighbors! I get compliments on them every time. I am zone 9 where it gets very hot during the summer and these came through just fine. Princess Alex was sending out 8 foot thick canes toward the end of summer so give her room to grow. She gets big. And this is her first year! Munstead also gets big but not as big is PA of K. He too was throwing out large canes. PA of K was one of the last roses blooming in my garden. She was sending out beautiful blooms until I pruned her for the winter. In cool weather the blooms were the size of the palm of my hand. They also lasted well in the vase and smell terrific. Munstead's blooms are not as big as PA of K but are just gorgeous and don't fade in our heat. In cooler weather, the roses blooms are very dark. Fabulous! Neither rose bush took time out when it got hot here. They still kept on producing. Great, healthy bushes and they are both first year. I don't tend to get diseases here in my garden so I can't comment on that. I don't spray and garden organically. It is just too warm here for PM and other fungal diseases so that is why I can't comment on diseases. Let me see if I can round up some pictures. You can see how dark Munstead gets when the weather is cooler. In the heat he still is a purple red as opposed to an orange red.

I just finished reading The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter by Hazel Gaynor which I really enjoyed. Our last bookclub book was Annabel by Kathleen Winter which is the story of Wayne, an intersexed child born in the 1960's and raised in small hunting town in Labrador. It was actually quite good. I am now reading Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance which many have noted but I just finally received from the library. I started it this afternoon and I think it will be real eye-opener for me. Next up for bookclub is The Hidden Life of Trees which is about...trees and the forest and how they interact and create a society with the animals, micro-organisms, fungi, and each other. It isn't a science book but rather a community book that discusses the community of trees. My running group runs in the trails of a forest that goes on forever and we are all in the same book club and everyone in the book club all live within about 5 blocks of this same forest where all our kids grew up playing and riding in so it should be really interesting.
