faucet for bar/prep sink?

We've picked out everything for the kitchen in the home we're building EXCEPT the faucet for the small coffee bar/prep sink.

The sink is Silgranit II diamond bar sink: 15" x 15" and 8" deep. Upper cabinets 20" above. The sink will be used for coffee/tea, occasional prep and hand washing when the main sink is busy. (Kohler Simplice at the main sink.)

I'd love a Kohler Karbon, but worry it's too big for the space. Designer says, "yes, too big," but I'm having a hard time letting go of that critter. I love everything else we're picking. I'd like to love that faucet too.

What faucets should I also look at? Function and beauty go hand in hand for me. It can't just look pretty, it has to feel solid and work great. The home is northwest modern rustic (lots of reclaimed material)

I love the Karbon too, and that will be the faucet at my main sink. I was planning on using the same for my secondary sink, but when we pulled our Karbon out of the box and looked at it, we feel that it would look too tall at our prep sink which is located in an island that is open to the family room.

After first reading about it on this forum, I finally chose the Kohler Hi-Rise Independent Side Spray for the prep sink. I love how it looks and functions.

As Kohler describes it, "An angled profile and single lever handle on the base allows this sidespray to independently carry out all the functions of a regular faucet, making it ideal for bar sinks or secondary kitchen sinks."

Wow, athome, I really appreciate you posting. I thought i knew all of Kohlers faucets...never seen that one before! How smoothly does the pull-out head re-seat itself?

Wow- great points. The lav faucets I was looking at are not very lav-looking, they have proportions like most bar faucets... but I think you're right that I don't want one in the pantry. It's the drain lever that isn't right, even if the spout height and proportions seem fine. Beuhl, I am using a hansgrohe talis S pull-out for the main faucet (because of the pass-through to the LR it would look weird to have anything higher) so I feel like I need something smaller than that for the pantry. It also needs to be fairly modern, which is a bummer because there ARE some smallish bar/prep faucets out there but they seem to all be traditional syled, at least in my price range! I'll just keep looking...... since its not the primary sink I won't mind if it sits bare a few months longer. Thanks!

Sorry I didn't see this sooner! I have a 2-month old baby so I don't get to indulge in my kitchen obsession as much as I used to. I have both the prep sized floriano and the regular. Honestly, the regular one isn't tremendously larger than the prep version- the rgular is 1" taller, and has a 2" longer reach. For your main sink, I would recommend getting the regular because the sprayer function is easier to use. On the regular, it is a toggle switch that is very convenient for when you often switch between spray and stream (like you do whenwashing dishes). The prep version also swiches between spray and stream, but you twist a ring on the nozzle to do so. When prepping, you don't switch too often so this is fine, but I wouldn't want that way of switching on my main sink. Also the prep version has a much smaller spray radius. Really, unless they're side by side, you won't notice the difference in size, so I highly recommend investing in the utility of the regular version. I have both the regular Delta Allora on our clean-up sink and the bar size on our prep sink. The standard size one is very big-- I was kind of shocked when I first saw it, but it does work with our scale. The bar size one is plenty big. But although the bar size one is probably more appropriate for smaller spaces, keep in mind that while it has a pull-down function, there is no spray option. If that makes a difference to you.

Oh, forgot to tell you...yes, I do like it. It's easy to use and when I'm filling a pot I leave the pot on the counter and just pull out the faucet head and hang it on the pot edge. I then let it fill...hands free! This is especially handy when I'm filling the 5-gallon bucket for the fish tank. Once that bucket is full, it's too heavy (for me) to lift it out of a sink and then over. It's so much easier to put the bucket on the counter, fill it, and then just ease it off the counter. I have a confession to make, I think I actually like the pull out functionality better than the pull down...I know, it flies in the face of the trend and opinions of most people here... Don't get me wrong, I really like my Vinnata and it works great for the Cleanup Sink; but for prepping, I find the pull out more useful and easier to use. I'm glad I have one of each...I have all the pros of each and those pros counteract the negatives of the other.

We're still in remodel mode, so I am not using mine yet, but I do have it and it is beautiful.

There was a thread (probably more) on this forum about this product. This thread has some photos posted by someone who is using it. Hope it helps.

I found another place to see this faucet. Kohler has a video up of several kitchen products. The Hi-Rise, and a similar sprayer, can be seen several times in the background at the beginning, BUT... if you can wait until about 1 minute and 40 seconds in, the product is demonstrated briefly

I don't remember who..but someone in the last year or so finished a kitchen with a wonderful faucet in their coffee/beverage area that dispensed both filtered and non-filtered water. I didn't make a note of it and now I am trying to figure it out for my own beverage sink.

This might be a good option for you as well if anyone remembers which faucet it was.
