i would imagine it's to comfortably rinse/fill pitchers and taller goblets, limiting the possibility of hitting the edge of the glass against the faucet. that's my guess, anyway!

Yes, I was going to say to fill pitchers.

I used a lav faucet with my prep sink, which incidentally was also a lav sink. Initially, I was met with some resistance to this by the plumbers, but there were no complications in doing it this way. (For the lav sink, there was on issue, because lav drains are smaller than kitchen drains, but I had got a lav sink with a kitchen sized drain hole, which fixed that.)

I just ordered my pantry faucet yesterday from overstock. I think it is 10". I didn't want to go any higher than that. I plan on ordering 2 Grohe Bridgeford faucets today and I also didn't want to spend much on the other area. I think it is adorable and the price seemed really good. I tried to narrow it down to faucets that were reviewed. I thougt overstock had a really good selection of bar/prep faucets. Good Luck and keep us posted on your choice.

Have you thought of a pullout faucet instead of a pull down? They're much shorter... There are some very nice ones out there... We have a pullout at our prep sink and the height is only 8-1/4". A pullout is much more versatile than a bathroom faucet. If you have a tall pitcher that won't fit under it, then you just leave the pitcher on the counter and pull the faucet head to it.

I would think a taller faucet would be more elegant... I wouldn't want something that looks like a bathroom faucet in a visible area/not a bathroom. I guess it's personal opinion, and maybe I'm misunderstanding you? I also would want a taller faucet for filling the coffee pot and for getting my hands under comfortably when washing veggies.

I wouldn't want most bathroom faucets in a kitchen area either -- there may be som exceptions.

I put a bar faucet at my island prep sink. It is a Blanco that is about 8-1/2 inches high at the very top -- the spout is lower than that. It works well enough for height, but we plan to replace it -- with something that will probably be taller. The main reason for us is that DH wants a sprayer on the prep sink faucet for rinsing things we prep. The bar faucet also has a low flow rate which means it takes a lot longer to fill a pot, pitcher or even the dog's water bowl. Consider all aspects of your choice.

The lav faucets I was looking at are not very lav-looking, they have proportions like most bar faucets... but I think you're right that I don't want one in the pantry. It's the drain lever that isn't right, even if the spout height and proportions seem fine.

Beuhl, I am using a hansgrohe talis S pull-out for the main faucet (because of the pass-through to the LR it would look weird to have anything higher) so I feel like I need something smaller than that for the pantry.

It also needs to be fairly modern, which is a bummer because there ARE some smallish bar/prep faucets out there but they seem to all be traditional syled, at least in my price range!

I'll just keep looking...... since its not the primary sink I won't mind if it sits bare a few months longer.

And the smaller ones I've found seem to be too contemporary. LOL I was thinking of that Kohler faucet that can bend and fold in different ways -- it could be short or tall and is definitely contemporary. Probably not a budget choice.

It's 12.5 x 9.5, which seems just a tad too big.

Here's the lav faucet version, below, which I actually like better but I'll bet it has the pop-up drain handle on the back :(

This next one is pricier, and 10" x 8", which seems a good size. Not sure I would put the sprayer in though (this is one a counter run with a desk area, and I don't want it to look cluttered)

This one might go best with my main faucet... what do you guys think?

Why not just get the same faucet? It has a unique look so I think it would look fine from the distance...it doesn't look like a typical kitchen faucet, at least not to me.

This is an increasing complaint among people here -- faucets are too big/too tall.

Any designers/reps trawling this site?

Hopefully, soon, they'll do for faucets what they did for furniture, and offer options again for smaller homes.

This isn't what you're looking for, but I have had this paddle-handle Zurn bridge faucet installed in my very old house (soapstone and mostly unfitted kitchen) for months and LOVE it.

There are more faucets out there than you think. I thought I'd seen them all, then I saw this one.

My DH was also concerned about this. He fell in love with the very low profile (4 3/16' tall) Kohler hirise sidepray faucet. It's just a sprayer, but it does run both hot and cold water. We are also installing a small purified water faucet on the sink for drinking and cooking water.

It's pricey, but we got it at designerplumbingoutlet.com for about half what a local kitchen store quoted us. I did ask about just using a cheap sprayer - apparently the difference is that most sprayers are linked to a separate faucet that contains the valves - this one is fully self-contained (and lets you securely shut the water off).

Strong caveat - we haven't installed it yet, so I can't give any feedback on how it works ....
