There are two roll pins that hold that gear in place on the shaft. You only need to remove the bottom one and the gear will slide off. It will take a punch and hammer.

Ok, gotcha now. If I were their I would pull off the cover and see if anything inside looks worn. Check out the gear, if there is a bunch of white saw dust looking stuff the gear is wearing on you and in need of replacement. Also look for ground up metal on top of the opener itself right next to the sprocket and on top of the gear. If this is the case you will need a whole gear and sprocket assembly. If all that checks out good the problem is probably in the circuit in board in which I would invest in a new opener rather than trying to repair it. The board is going to cost around 90 bucks and you can buy a new opener for about 150 bucks with up to date technology. No, On the way up if the door becomes obstructed in some way it just stops. sdello -- Let's get one thing perfectly clear. Neither I nor my husband had anything to do with the improper installation of the sensors. We did not install the sensors, nor did we ask that the sensors be installed in such a way as to defeat the safety purpose for which they were designed. That is all on the shoulders of the two guys that installed the new garage door opener. When I saw they'd be installed that way, I asked what the heck was going on, and the lead guy claimed that this was the only way they could be installed because (he claimed) there "wasn't enough room" on one side of the door to install the sensor there. In actuality, there WAS AND STILL IS enough room at that spot. That's where the sensor for the opener that was being replaced had been installed. I think the guy was afraid a "daddy longlegs" might come out from behind something and crawl across his hand.

Yes. Every aspect of the opener works except for the ability to use the handheld remotes. The wall control works fine. There is no blinking light on it. The keyless entry works fine as well. No problems There. Nor does the programmable button in my SUV have issues being programmed. It too works perfectly. It perplexes me why the hand helds, (even the new ones I purchased to replace the one I assumed was defective) don't work. The model number of my GDO is 41A4315-7D. It was manufactured in 10/03.
