I am beyond amazed by the wonderful (and sometimes humorous) input on this thread! Wow! (Mamarella, your house looks beautiful, by the way! I can definitely see the similarities in color, although the scope of your house is much larger from the front.) On Monday, I picked up a bunch of paint chips at the local hardware store and held them up for my husband to see. (Many of them were colors that were recommended on here...or similar!) We have decided to go with some sort of blue (probably with green-ish undertones), but we had a lot of trouble narrowing the field down to one color. I have about 8-10 swatches set aside, and I am going to look them over tomorrow with a friend who has a good eye for color. Then, I will buy a few small jars of paint and see what actually looks good when it's up! We will see if the neighbors decide to chime in this time around. :-) To answer a few questions, I live outside of Boston, and we are moving from just a few blocks away. Therefore, I already know some of the neighbors, and they feel comfortable enough telling me when they don't like something....for better or for worse! Likewise, I appreciate the honest--and varied--input on this thread. :-) What a wonderful resource! I think the tiling choice (same through all spaces or different) is a personal preference. If you use the same all through, you'll have a nice visual flow. If the 12x12 is a compelling cost savings in the laundry room and mudroom, I would consider doing some kind of transition in the pantry. It could be something as simple as the same tile style but in different sizes, set up to look like a 'rug'. (See examples below.) Or you could use some of the same type of tile but add new colors for some pattern and interest. Or of course you could go nuts with some gorgeous mosaic tile rug (I think it was Igloochick who found one on eBay) but you have to balance that tile and install cost with the savings on the 12x12. Stuff like interesting tile makes me stupidly happy, so I would do some kind of transition pattern in the pantry, whether simple or fancy. I'd start by looking at what other sizes and shapes your tile choice comes in, and what other colors are in that line that you like. But that's just me and you might have something else that makes you happy! simple tile rug: transition with a simple border - this is probably the easiest (and I think it's good looking) if your tile has some kind of coordinating 2x2s; then the inside of the border could be the 12x12s, set on an angle if you like: two colors:

Oceanna, it kept locking up and freezing on me. Of course I had to hurry up and upgrade when I got that email from them, so I do have one of the first versions released, and that may be part of the problem. Lynne_Melb, did you get your version 10 when it was released right away or later on? I think sometimes we're the beta testers for these hardware and software companies. ;-) I had Elements at one time and did like it. There is a bit of a learning curve going from Paint Shop Pro to Elements because, as Squirrel said, commands in various products are different, but once learned, it's good. I would say it's comparable to PSP and I only stopped using Elements because I upgraded to Photoshop which is great, but is a real system hog. You have to have a good amount of free space and memory to use it or it will lock up and freeze, and it seems like overkill for what we're doing here, but that's only an opinion and I'm sure others may feel differently.
