Pick up this weeks issue of MKE. (Its free of course!) There is a pullout listing all the free things to do around town. Free movies at the parks and university. The days or times, the museums and art center has free admission. Where the free garden tours are. And all the free music events! Free trolley ride routes.

I know Chicago has lots of free events too and I am looking for an "all in one listing" of the free city events.

Morning Traveling Daylilies! Well, I never made it back yesterday. Just too much to do. Jo is right, I need to slow down. : ) Unfortunately, it's only going to get worse. But I do have a bit of good news. We hired one of DH's employees to work for us in the evening. He will be doing lots of stuff that I would probably normally be doing. That will free up lots of time for me to work on moving plants. I'm on my way out again, but wanted to take a sec. to thank Carol again and show my goodies.... The "Carribbean Stud" is the large stuffed parrot. He is holding a playing card and wearing a dealer's hat. You may or may not know this, but DH is a professional internet poker player. It is his 2nd job, lol. That parrot is just perfect! I LOVE him. I also go a Beanie Baby Parrot that I am thrilled about. I already had him, but my Macaw got ahold of him and chewed off his eyes. : ( I am so happy to have a new one. Also got: *A sweet stuffed bunny wearing a rain coat holding a bag of gumball eggs *A beltclip radio w/headphones and compass. Carol also included batteries.....this will be perfect at the new place in case I get lost in the woods. : ) *A wonderful set of Aromatherapy candles. I am saving these to use at the new house. *Dahlia 'Hawaii'......a nice large clump! I haven't looked this one up yet, but i'll bet it's perty. *Peeps bunnies in blue....yum! *Two glass drink stirs..........with parrots on top!!! Carol, I love these and will cherish them. *The cutest, teeny-tiny glass ladybug. I almost didn't see it in the box. It's precious. *A set of vanilla-honey bath salts, gel, and scrub with wooden applicator. Can't wait to use these in my new tub. I don't have a nice tub here and will be putting one in the new house. *Magnetic note box with pad & pencil that says "Friends Forever" : ) I can never have enough note paper. *Seeds! Passiflora Caerulea & Cypress Vine 'Valentine Mix' *A cute pink bunny filled with easter candy corn... *A very pretty card *The cutest green bug whirli-gig that will be going over to the new place today. I am working on the holding bed for my Iris and Daylilies. I will put it in there to help scare off the critters. : ) *An easter bag filled, and I mean FILLED, with all kinds of candy. Oh Carol, what a selection! I never buy this stuff for myself so it's quite a treat. I'll be filling my pockets up. *A chocolate bunny missing the head....well, it still had it's head when it arrived, but DH got ahold of it. : ) *A F$*% potsitter.......I love him, but MamaG would not. I hope I didn't forget anything. This all came in a priority box decorated with flowers and ladybugs. Cute! Carol, you really made my day and I love everything. We got caught in this one. Seldom shop at Target but both hubs and I used CC there, more than once. We cancelled our credit card and will be sent a new one. As others have said, it could be months before your number is used, so you do need to get a new card number. It is a pain, as just last night I was going to puchase something online and the card I have used before is the one that is cancelled so I have to contact the places that have my card on record. I know that is not the smartest thing to do, but I have never had an issue with that end of it. The day after Christmas last year, I got a call from our CC company that our number had been used both in NJ and CA at almost the same time - both for small amounts at drug stores like CVS. Then a few minutes later at Las Vegas to pay for a hotel room. It was caught at that time. Turns out it was a card we seldom use - only for places that do not take our "everyday card". The affected one was only used at Sams Club and at our local vets office. And, it hadn't been used in a couple of months. Had to be someone associated with Sams that hacked it and that was over 6 months before that we joined Sams Club. So, do get a new card. Guess we got ours taken care of quick enough. We did not have trouble getting in touch with our company. We do not use debit cards at all so no problem there.

We just found out that Zoey is crate trained..... her foster mom never mentioned it, and told us that Zoey was used to having free run of the house. Zoey is now accustomed to using a crate as her bed, but we've never actually closed her in there. My wild imagination worried that Zoey would rattle around in the crate and scream like a banshee, but we were pleasantly surprised when we decided to close the crate door behind her. We had my folks and one of my sisters over last night for New Year's, and decided we'd put her in her crate while we were eating dinner (we don't have a dining table yet, so we balanced plates on our knees). So, I tossed a Twist 'n' Treat filled with her fav cookies into her crate, and she followed it in and didn't even know I'd closed the crate door behind her. Turned out we left her in there for 2 hours during the 3 hours my family was there, and she was as quiet as a church mouse. I even popped into the bedroom, where the crate is, a couple times to use the master bath, and she didn't make a peep. When I finally let her out, she was deep asleep, zonked out with the empty treat holder next to her. After the treats were gone, she probably just thought it was time to go to sleep, since that's what she's used to doing in her crate. Anyhoo, this is good news! Everybody was right when they said a dog has to have a place of their own to feel safe.

I just heard an interview with Maya Lin, the artist behind the Vietnam War Memorial in DC, talking about her latest project. I am linking it here - it is pretty amazing and with the Lewis and Clark connection, thought you (and/or your kids) might find it worth looking at for possibilities. The webpage is very complex about what she/they are doing, but fascinating to read. I'll link to the interview, too, in case anyone is interested, but will have to add it later, as it's not available online yet. Got kids and can't afford Disnyland? Spend a day taking the free Jelly Belly tour. Train ride through the plant. Jellybean mascots to make kids smile. Free sampling of jellybeans. And the opportunity to buy the mis-shapen jellybeans at a discount from their company store.

Makes for a pleasant family outing, and the drive there, is quite scenic. Pack a picnic lunch and stop at a state park or one of the many county parks or waysides instead of McDonalds:

Great fun for kids and adults; Free planetarium shows and lectures. Kids love to learn about the stars. Different topic every week. Interesting enough to keep adults focused, and not too cerebral for kids.

There's more! Best of all; The free Science Bag lecture and performance. This is a high energy, visualy entertaining, event, for both adults and kids. Something great to do either Friday evening or Sunday afternoon. Get those kids away from those video games and go out for a family event! There is a cafeteria open to the public on campus, that has healthy food and snacks for a lot less than you'll pay elsewhere. Or pack a lunch and have it in the beautiful Lake Park two blocks away overlooking Lake Michigan.

(Looks like MKE magazine missed tons of good free entertainment around town for their article. They should have paid me to write it. LOL. I've got a whole list of things.)

Not free, but a wonderful gourmet meal opportunity is the WCTC Classic Room, open for dining mid day two days a week. It is the training "lab" for the culinary arts school. (262-691-5194 or 262-691-5303 for info and reservations).

Formal service, multicourse, and students knocking themselves out to present a perfect, fabulous dining experience. And you even get to grade them on it! Beat that for about $12-$15.

I remember a few years back being able to get FREE decorated cakes from the school bakery school. I don't know if they charge now or not.

Their dental hygiene school did offer free teeth cleaning, but now there is a user fee - still less than going to the dentist and the instructor checks all the work so it is always perfect!

I'm sure tech schools everywhere offer discounted prices by work done by their students. Something to check into where ever you live.
