Comments (18)Gary, I have not seen it but will look at it. I have a feeling it may be like the "fake" but extremely realistic looking orchid tree they have at Fairchild. The expanding foam to hold on the corkbark works GREAT. It will also hold firmly pieces of driftwood and other wood. I used it to make my 55 gal "aquarium terrarium" and the foam was top notch for this purpose. You have to kind of cover any amount that "squishes out" with moss and plants but its easy to do. The Black Jungle site suggested "painting" the visible foam with black caulk but I tried that and it worked POORLY. Its a lot easier to glue some moss on there using the caulk or just tying or wiring it on under the plants. I actually bought something once with this kind of project in mind, I am planning to use it to let my Vanilla Vine run up top in the GH: I bought one of those large bore fenestrated pieces of tubing they use in septic drainage fields. Since it has holes in it, there will be good drainage for any water that gets inside. It can be sectioned and made into any form, and then you cover the same way, with the foam and pieces of mounting substrate....See MoreDownspout/gutter drainage
Comments (16)I had the same problem - but I was on the other end. I bought a house where I was TOLD by the seller that there was a french drain in place between the neighbors house and the one I was buying. The first big rain proved that wrong. We don't have basements here in TX, so my house was flooded instead. 3 bedrooms and a bath on that side of the house had standing water. The next weekend, my husband and I put in a french drain system. In this pic you can see my neighbors house (the higher one), their retaining wall, the new drain (designed like a creek bed) and my house is on the other side of the dry creek bed. Under the rock is a trench with landscape fabric and drain pipe and more rocks. We've had some serious rain storms since I put it in and we have had absolutely no problems with it. It probably cost us about $300 in materials and a weekend worth of work, but we had no clue what we were doing. ;) You might consider doing something similar with your landscaping. I've seen others here in TX simply design a small trench to take gutter run-off to the street. think like an extended downspout....See MoreNeed help with our Gutter Drainage Erosion Issue
Comments (3)Another vote for the PVC. Ask your landscapers for suggestions on how to handle the issues you are concerned about at the drop off. I can think of about three different methods to deal with that, off the top of my head, but one would need to actually see the site to fix on the best method. The best method is probably as Sofaspud mentions, terminate into a dry well. Once you trench, slope and install the PVC you are done. Any other solution presents ongoing maintenance issues of varying degrees. Whatever you do, do install a clean out somewhere close to the house so you can "jet" your hose into it periodically to wash out debris and critter nests....See MoreRental with no gutters - ground cover for bed receiving roof drainage
Comments (7)How large of an area are you talking about? Can you take pictures? If it is not a huge area, I might lay concrete pavers as close to each other as possible, covering the ground completely and then fill over the top with a thick layer of rock. The pavers will keep the water from displacing the soil or splashing on it, and should keep the area clean. Then I'd get some pots and plant some water loving plants in them and line them up on top of the rocks...kind of like this (altho these don't appear to be water loving plants): another idea, if your spot isn't too big...would be to install the rock and then use metal or tile pipes to get the plants up off the ground a bit and keep the dirt contained......See Moredavidandkasie
