I like the fixture. Can't you chain it over to the beam, putting the hook in the beam? Seems like that might put it in the middle of the counter

Yes I think that's all we could do. You won't notice it from the kitchen side, but you'll see it on the sunroom side. Will it look bad? Do you think it fits the space? Or should I have gone bigger?

I agree with doraville - put a hook on the beam & run the chain through that to line up the fixture with the peninsula. I don't think it will look bad at all. With a chain fixture like that its not unusual to use a hook to get it centered & that chain is plenty long. You could always try it - a hook is easy to remove & patch if you don't like the look.

It might look a bit odd from the sliding door side, but I don't see another solution. What's one sliding door side - a dining table?

Put the electrical box on the bottom of the beam.
You should be able to fish the wire over and do everything from below.

or install wall sconces on the other kitchen side of the beam.

keptoz - do you think it should hang right under the beam or on the other side so you don't see it from the kitchen side?

doraville - there is going to be a dining table across from the sliders.

The only problem with putting the hook on the other side of the beam would be that the so called swag would be over farther and the fixture then would sit higher up but that might work. You could try having someone hold it over in both places. Then you could see how it looks from the different angles??? You'd also be able to see how the light hits the peninsula and the seating there if you have seating. I, personally, would probably want the fixture centered over the peninsula.

Forgot to tell you-your light fixture is cool!! Just the right size for that area.

chris45ny - I'm so happy you said that! I was so concerned it wasn't right for the space and not big enough. I really like it, which is why I'm trying to make it work. We're planning to fix it on Monday, so we'll play with it and see what works best. I think we have to go to the beam, not sure if there is anything to grab in the ceiling of the sunroom. Our bigggest concern for anyone sitting at the penisula that theu don't have the light right over their head, especially the DH he's 6'1.

How does the light work out if you simply raise it and not consider it a pendant but a fixture near the ceiling? Does it shed enough light onto the kitchen side of the countertop?

florantha - We tried raising it, but it hangs right at the edge of the counter and it would be right over our heads while sitting at the counter. I would have more light in the kitchen if its hung right under the beam, especially since I have lighting issues in the kitchen already. That's another post! I think my 4" recessed with 35 watt aren't bright enough.
