I love everyone's photos. This is Liz. She's a rescue pup, now nine years old. Liz loves when I work with compost because I turn over the pile and unearth big and fat, juicy white grubs. Talk about wolfing down, she snaps them up in a heartbeat. (ick) Ever alert, the tomato watchdog... ======================= I had a very good year with my tomatoes. Because I was working with government seeds I felt compelled to openly document the growout regardless of good, bad and ugly. This season I finally gave in to reality and bought six pounds of Serenade and have used it regularly throughout the season. When you use a product to combat foliage problems it does make a difference, but you have to do it regularly--you need to make it a personal discipline and stick with it thoughout the growing season to see the best results. 'Curatives' are no cures, they only delay the eventual result of a plant succumbing to disease. A treatment program for your garden is like taking your maintainence drugs--if you do it regularly you can live a long time but play around with it and you are asking for problems to come sooner than later. I think the biggest and most annoying concern this season was that I had a couple Huang Se Chieh keel over from Stem Rot. I have to solarize the bed and lay out the plastic sheeting in late February and let it cook until a week or two before I am ready to plant in the bed next season. I'm not new to solarization, this bed was made by it a few years back; a big plastic dropcloth and some weights to hold it tight to the ground are all it takes--it's a very low cost process. I got very lucky--VERY lucky. Not one of these GRIN tomatoes grew into a spitter and they ere all great croppers too, except for the one Banjan Roomii which I grew in a container; it still made divine fruits but I don't know if it moderately cropped because of its containment--in other words, it might have cropped better in the ground. Insane production--Early Kus Ali and Hong Yuen. OMG! Out of self-defense I bought a pressure canner and put up loads of sauce. These two varieties ran me ragged for about six weeks straight and then petered out; this is the behavior of a DET but these are INDs. I love the name Goji Faranji--it sounds more like a character in a fairy tale than a tomato. If you let Goji Faranji entirely ripen on the plant you will taste they are worth the wait. Cut open a ripe one and there is a tomato aroma explosion in your head. These are irresistable. How pretty is this! If all you are worried about is crash and losing files... hard to beat dropBox for something like that. Don't need to do anything,, its like magic. Files on your your hard drive folder,, with no effort there will be a copy in your online dropbox with same folder name automatically. Delete a file from your folder, it deletes from dropbox ... but.. you can view and restore deletes at dropbox for a few days. Crash your hard drive completely, reinstall windows fresh and install the dropbox program.. the real magic quietly happens.. suddenly those folders and files all up to the minute/date in real time from when you crashed,,, reappear on your computer. Any computer you install dropbox on will have the same files on it too... as long as you use the same account/login/password. I'm not so much concerned with rpm #'s. I only use them to determine where I am in set up mode when I do the manual trial. When I look to set the max gpm (for a spa jet trial), I ramp it to an estimated gpm based on the most efficient velocity for a given pipe size. It is then that i look at the rpm to see where we are. If it's at 3450, I'll ramp down until I see a change in that rpm number. At that point, we know anything above that gpm setting is just waste. Still, max rpm is not always the effieicent speed. You now look to the filter psi. Where is it and how is it responding to the pump flow change? If I'm at 20+psi and I can ramp down the flow without changing the jet action, I'll keep going down as far as I can. I don't bottom out as I know my filter getting dirty will cut flow. It just establishes my range and I find a good spot in that range. Your previous numbers did not make sense. what you are reporting now is more realistic. Again, you're really looking a wattage. What is the consumption and is it where you want to be? Under 300 is awesome as long as you are seeing results in the pool and who cares what the rpm or gpm is. Those are all subjective to the installation. 15gpm is a real slow turn and most are not programmed for that. But, if you're getting good skimming go for it. I try not to program under 20. As far as the impeller goes, we use a service set of tweezers. They're long and with the proper, educated feel of what it is supposed to be, you'll know if it's blocked. As times, it will feel clean but palm pods, toy gun pellets, etc can jam the inside of the impeller and you'll never know unless you pull the motor. Where are you located?
