Squirlz Reflection program

Has anyone tried this program? I found it over at Kat Korner, it is really easy and pretty neat.

It's new to me. Tell us about it....easy to download, install, use, etc. ?

Yes to all. You open a .jpg in PSP duplicate the layer, flip that layer,merge, save as a jpg. Open Squirlz reflect program click on the dash line on the left. Outline the bottom half of your jpg, then click reflect. Save as an AVI. Open AS and go through the wizard. Save then as a GIF. These instructions were given to me by a very gracious person named Bev. I downloaded and just couldn't figure out what to do with it. Give it a try it was really simple. There is another called Squirlz Morph, I haven't tried that yet.

*digs up old thread* Well, I've finally gotten up the nerve to try composting, and thought I'd share my experience here. It's only my second week, but so far, so good. I called several local nurseries, and found a kitchen compost bin for under a hundred dollars. I could've gotten one from the Gardens at Spring Creek (Fort Collins' community garden) last year for about half the cost, but when I called to ask if they still had them, I was informed they were sold out due to high demand. For a while I'd contemplated making my own out of a Rubbermaid trash can, but after pricing these I figured I might as well cough up an additional $30 and have a tidier, more ergonomical bin. So I hefted my new purchase home and opened up the box. This was what was inside: It also came with a booklet with instructions in English, Spanish, and French. (It turns out that the "Garden Gourmet" is surpisingly not manufactured in China but Ontario, Canada) The recycled plastic pieces snapped together easily -- once they were flattened out a little -- and didn't require any special tools. It's much smaller than a traditional compost pile, but is designed to hold about 11 cubit feet, which is currently plenty for my small-scale gardening efforts. So far I've put in partially decomposed leaves, fruit and vegetable scraps, houseplant trimmings, seaweed, bread crumbs, tea leaves and coffee grounds, and I've been sure to poke at it every couple of days or so. I'm amazed at how quickly things are already decomposing, and how little it smells. (Of course I may change this opinion when the heat of summer arrives!) I've also been tossing in about a pint of water a day, because our climate is so dry and windy. This, along with one inch piece limits and regular aeration, is said to be key with small upright compost bins. Hopefully in about six months to a year I'll have my very own compost -- or at the very least, an interesting learning experience.

I love everyone's photos. This is Liz. She's a rescue pup, now nine years old. Liz loves when I work with compost because I turn over the pile and unearth big and fat, juicy white grubs. Talk about wolfing down, she snaps them up in a heartbeat. (ick) Ever alert, the tomato watchdog... ======================= I had a very good year with my tomatoes. Because I was working with government seeds I felt compelled to openly document the growout regardless of good, bad and ugly. This season I finally gave in to reality and bought six pounds of Serenade and have used it regularly throughout the season. When you use a product to combat foliage problems it does make a difference, but you have to do it regularly--you need to make it a personal discipline and stick with it thoughout the growing season to see the best results. 'Curatives' are no cures, they only delay the eventual result of a plant succumbing to disease. A treatment program for your garden is like taking your maintainence drugs--if you do it regularly you can live a long time but play around with it and you are asking for problems to come sooner than later. I think the biggest and most annoying concern this season was that I had a couple Huang Se Chieh keel over from Stem Rot. I have to solarize the bed and lay out the plastic sheeting in late February and let it cook until a week or two before I am ready to plant in the bed next season. I'm not new to solarization, this bed was made by it a few years back; a big plastic dropcloth and some weights to hold it tight to the ground are all it takes--it's a very low cost process. I got very lucky--VERY lucky. Not one of these GRIN tomatoes grew into a spitter and they ere all great croppers too, except for the one Banjan Roomii which I grew in a container; it still made divine fruits but I don't know if it moderately cropped because of its containment--in other words, it might have cropped better in the ground. Insane production--Early Kus Ali and Hong Yuen. OMG! Out of self-defense I bought a pressure canner and put up loads of sauce. These two varieties ran me ragged for about six weeks straight and then petered out; this is the behavior of a DET but these are INDs. I love the name Goji Faranji--it sounds more like a character in a fairy tale than a tomato. If you let Goji Faranji entirely ripen on the plant you will taste they are worth the wait. Cut open a ripe one and there is a tomato aroma explosion in your head. These are irresistable. How pretty is this! Shenandoah, I sell RE on and around Lake Norman and Charlotte. What is your MLS #? I would like to take a look at the listing. Also, if you are located on Lake Norman, did your agent explain to you that there are 7 years worth of inventory of just waterfront homes? Right from the start, you have a 50 / 50 chance of being a winner or a loser as far as geting the home sold. Like Chiuse said... you CAN NOT chase the market downwards. You have to price it a bit below market value to get serious interest. What Buyer in their right mind is going to pay market value for a home, knowing that in two months it is going to be worth less. They want a cushion. They will get it. From you, or from the guy down the street. Do not sell the boat slip to your neighbor! If you do, you just decreased the Buyer pool even further. Buyers are making their decision on one thing and one thing only right now, and that is perceived value. In other words, price. It is not true that you can not sell your home. you just need to price it right. A lot of agents do not know how to do this in a market like this. Your appraisal of 12 months ago means nothing to no one. Throw it away. Find what compareable homes are selling for, and then price it at least 15% under those. You need to sell. Interest rates are going up. Each time they do, your Buyer pool gets smaller. Do not get caught up with lowering your price little by little, and never being in front of the curve. You spent your savings and borrowed money for the stager. You need to sell tomorrow! Do not let yourself become one of those that gets foreclosed on or forced into a short sale. Speak with your agent today and come up with a good plan. Good luck.

Carol, I really like how your "ocean motion" turned out, but you're right, the water's edge needs to move in and out. Just to see if I could do it I used PSPX and AS using the Morph transition. The image is 252KB so rather than post it here I'm using a link. Whadda' ya think... What I did was isolate the lower part of the water (from the rocks down) on a layer by itself, duplicate that layer and deform one of them to make it look like the water had ebbed. From these parts (blurred background, upper image, water flowing in, water ebbing out) I created 2 complete image frames, one with the water flowing in (original water) and one with the water ebbing out (deformed water). Took those 2 frames to AS and used the Effects / Insert Image Transition... / Morph to create the inbetween frames. As this is just a sample I only created 2 transition frames, but to make a smooth ebb and flow sequence I duplicated the 2 trans. frames and reversed them so it goes Flow, Trans1, Trans2, Ebb, Trans2, Trans1. Now, tell me about this Squirlz you used, I don't think I heard of it. I'm thinking a patchwork from the Squirlz frames and the AS Morph frames would make an awesome animation. Jill P.S. If you want to really make yourself crazy, add a gentle bobbing motion to the boat. :D

Thank you, Carol. I downloaded both, Morph and Reflection. Will give it a try tomorrow.

I'll post a sample....as soon as I get a keeper, that is :-)

Joy the Morph seems a little more involved. I'll wait till I have lots of time to play with it. There is a tut for the Morph over at Kat Korner. Good luck, I'm anxious to see your results.

Carol, first try, hopefully, it will get better :-)

Wanted to try and see if it would work as something other than reflection, selected only the rose.
Probably would have looked better if I had selected the whole top.

Of course Joy, as usual yours is terrific! Now share with us how you did it. I started out trying what you had done, before I figured out how it worked, but I couldn't get it to do what you did. So I setteled for the reflection.

Carol, I didn't do anything special. Just start with a photo (jpeg) that has an area that you want to have ripple or wave, don't flip.

This is what I did....

I opened a new image, used a cube (tube) in PSP.
Selected the three sides of the cube with the Magic Wand and added the rose(s).
De-selected
Saved it as a jpeg (no two layers or flipping), then....

I opened Sqirlz and found the rose/cube file.
Selected only the rose, the rest is the same.
I could have selected the whole top of the cube instead of just the rose.

I hope this makes sense...

Makes sense, the only thing I can't figure out how to do is add another selection, ie the stream in front of the Unicorn.

Carol, very pretty.

From the 'Help' menu....I haven't tried it, yet.

"Adding several reflecting areas

To create two reflecting areas, do the following:

Set up the animation as usual with a single Outline around your first reflecting area.
Save the animation to an AVI file (preferably using no compression when saving).
Load your saved AVI file using the "AVI Open" command in the File menu.
Draw a new Outline around your second reflecting area.
You can now view your two-reflection animation, or save it to an AVI or Flash file.

The above procedure can be repeated as many times as you like to create three, four or more reflecting areas."

Thank you Joy, now why didn't I think of going to the help menu. Actually I had when I first got the program and found it pretty sparce with info. I had thought that you must have to save and start with a new file, but I have never worked with AVI before and was not sure. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I'm going to give it a try now.
