Fridays painting - using pastels

Hi Folks

Well using the pastels was certainly an experience - far less forgiving than the oil paints and harder to cover any mistakes - lol like those awful rocks on the left!!

I found it similar to drawing with chalk but messier, it was certainly interesting to try new techniques and I liked the feel of them on my fingers - the teacher advised us not to smudge if possible but being left handed my hand seemed to constantly be connecting with the paper and making a mess.

LOL Elaine they won't be involved for long. The teacher can't get the classroom on Friday so class is cancelled this week and after that the kids will be back at school. :) Judy I need a bigger house. The painting are stacked everywhere and Tony is complaining about the clutter. A friend is having a market stall in May so I'll try to sell them and if that doesn't work hopefully charities will accept them to use for raffles and door prizes. I'm seriously considering only going twice a month instead of each week simply because of the space factor :( The kids ones will go in cheap frames and into their rooms. Sue :)

Thank you ladies. Elaine the pools are like little holes and ditches in the rocks and they fill with water depending on the tide. Little kids are fascinated by them as at low tide you can go exploring and get close and personal with the sea snails, crabs and sea urchins that gather there. And YES you could do as well if you painted step by step with a teacher :) These is an actual place called Sandon Point - about 20 minutes drive North of us. Our teacher Peter took photos and then worked from his shots. Sue :)

Thank you ladies. Yes it does hold a lot of memories. When it's dry I plan to frame it and put it on the wall above my computer. HUGS Next week is water colors - YIKES!! Sue :)

I give you so much credit Sue for trying all these new things. I love the pastel look, and I'm sure you will master it as you did with the oils.

lol it was a little like being back at school and coloring between the lines we drew. Peter (the teacher) said later on down the track he will do another pastel class.

He gave us all our own set so we can practice and play at home but I will have to buy the special paper if I want to do that.
