Nurses week poster resized

Here is my poster, I resized a copy of the psp file then converted to JPEG. The final version had a border on it. Still a little large but the poster was 16x22.

Carol - That's beautiful. Thank you so much for posting it.
I've never understood how a poster is printed. Would you make it really large and then print 4 different sheets out at 8 1/2" x 11". Then paste the 4 sheets together to make the final size 16 x 22"? The math works, but I wouldn't know how to do that. Can you explain how you did it?
Good work, and like you I enjoy fooling with this sort of thing.

Hear, hear Lezro! I have used IrfanView (free download) for several years. In fact I prefer it. I learned the basics in an afternoon. I have Photoshop Elements and occassionaly use it to do some cloning, which IrfanView doesn't provide. It's an excellent program but the learning curve is fairly steep and it is slower. IrfanView bypasses Windows registry which is part of the reason it is so speedy, even with images from a 5 megapixel camera. When you first open (or drag and drop) your image you will only see a small portion (unless you have changed the default view). I click on the magnifying glass with a minus sign to zoom out to see what to crop. Sometimes what I am wanting is small enuf that resizing isn't necessary so little quality is lost (using 95 compression). I don't remember what the default compression setting (maybe 80). I choose my own depending on the image. If the cropped image is still too big for the screen click on Image in the menu and choose Resize/Resample, where you can instantly resize to make your image screen size. And of course you lose quality. That's where sharpening is useful. I have learned Not to fill my camera's LCD screen with the desired image. It loses far too much quality when down-sized and compressed. I am happy to help anyone with IrfanView. Drop me an email. Welcome Alberta...I think you will be glad you have this spot to vent & perhaps get some sound advice for all the problems your family is facing. My parents are 87 & 84 and Hospice is now involved for Mom. I have taken a leave of absence from work, my sister who has been able to live in with them must leave by Oct 20 to return to work. I am almost frozen in terror of the prospects of what I'll face going it alone, from the medical & paperwork aspects. My DH has said he'll be more helpful than in the past but there are some things I know he won't do.We do have a live in caregiver who is a Godsend, but she's 78 & I worry about her health as it's such a monumental task.I am flying up north for 5 days as my DH has been up there all summer at his old job. He has a cyst at the top of his spine that must be removed & I felt I needed to go even though Mom is so fragile right now.Last Sat. we found out my DH's best man needed brain surgery yesterday. You do get to the point you want to hide under the bed when bad news flows like a river.I do my best by just focusing one day at a time, not looking back & not looking ahead either.I gain more strength knowing there are people like me struggling along with elder care.

I haven't tandem nursed...and, my almost 20 month old just weaned about 3 weeks ago... But, my thought is much like the above poster said...she's getting the "power" stuff for the new baby too...It should, I assume all balance out soon enough...I'm thinking that your body is still working on who's nursing when type thing...My guy was only nursing 1 maybe 2x in a 24 hour period the last few months prior to his stopping. Are you basically nursing new baby before big sister? Maybe big sister is actually get the "hind" milk from baby? I don't have a clue...just trying to think a few things through... Good luck...I hate "blow outs" too! :o)

Hello all. -I am 30 y/o. -DH is 35 (-what does "DH" stand for?!) -DH was married 14 years ago. Got married shotgun style, at 20 y/o, when he knocked up his girlfriend. -SS who is 12 (almost 13) from that union. -DH divorced BM of my SS after 3 years (therefore 11 years ago) SS is living with us 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off for summer vacation. He *may* stay with us full time when school starts up because his BM "can't handle him" and he is much better behaved with me and DH. I personally do not have any of my own kids, and I am 99% sure I don't want any. So, you can imagine I am not thrilled about SS coming to live with us full-freaking-time. All I can do it count down the days til he turns 18 and/or gets a life of his own. Right now it's lots of micromanaging a teen who isn't too keen on hygiene. So happy to join this forum and talk to other stepmama's with the same issues I have. :)

Thanks so much. You can make posters in pretty much any publishing software. I usually design them in PSP then print them from from a program called Poster. I can also use Picture It Publishing for my posters, but it always gave me a problem with banners, didn't seem to get along with my HP printer. So I purchased this program called Poster and it allows me to print banners on continuous banner paper and does a great job with posters. I only bought it because I make so many for work. And became so frustrated with Picture It, and dealing with every fix Microsoft could possibly dream up. It was well worth the $18.00 if you use it often. In fact is was one of MS techs who gave me the name of the software, as they also became frustrated, nothing seemed to work for the banners.

Sorry Elaine after all of that I really didn't explain how to do it. I open up a blank image in PSP 16.250 x 22.500 inches. A very large file. Do what ever I am going to make with it, save it as a jpeg, then open in Poster to print it from there. You then have to paste it together from four sheets of paper. It does overlap the pages a little, kind of like putting a puzzle together. My new printer works better as I can make it borderless 8 1/2x11".

Thanks for the explanation Carol. I went to look at the program.....not really sure whether I would ever use it or not - but looks interesting and it isn't expensive! Unfortunately I can't make borderless prints on my HP 960C printer, but I guess you could work around that.
Always wondered how that was done - and now I know.
