Very pink and red could be not only stress, but the response of a variegated plant to stress. Lacking chlorophyll, other pigments are expressed, leading to fall coloration. Pups can be more or less variegated than the mother plant. Completely variegated plants lack chlorophyll and can not make sugars on their own. Such pups must remain attached to mom to survive. Your plant has an extremely low amount of chlorophyll producing cells, which will make it slow growing, but viable. Brad.

Hey Houzz folks! An update on Apios! This year we have made our groundnuts available through our seed distributor Sow True Seed out of Asheville, NC. These are the Blackmon line from the LSU trials back in the 1980s and 90s. As we continue to develop an agriculture model for them, the price will continue to get better. This is a great perennial food that grows from Ontario to Florida and almost anywhere in the US. Great for homesteading and permaculture gardens. Great in containers. Beautiful miniature wisteria-like blooms. It’s a legume, so it fixes nitrogen as well. Native Americans shared this with great food with the pilgrims when their crops were failing and it helped them survive. If you’re a plant buff, you need this one in your garden. hi Jim, I am coming to your Green Elephant swap this year and I'm so excited to do so! I missed it last year, much to my distress. I am very interested in your angelica. I have some hardy bog plants (Pitcher plants of different types)that I can trade. I also am getting ready to divide some Pinguicula in the greenhouse if you are interested in something a little less hardy. I also have some flowering plum trees, the purple leaf/pink flower variety, that are a few years old but still small enough to pot and bring. I probably have some hostas too, and maybe some other trees. What are you looking for in the tree and hosta departments? I have many, many hostas. (a bit of a hostaholic,I'm afraid) Are you looking for small or tall? Also, what type of prairie plants are you looking for? I've got a number of different plants that could fall into that category - heleniums, echinaceas, penstemons, agastaches, some grasses. You can dmail me through Daves Garden or reply here. I was in the Acworth store this past Sunday (Apr. 13). It was the first time I'd been in this Pike's since last summer and was surprised at how the inside of the store had changed in that there was much less from which to choose in the way of pots, windchimes, bird-feeders...so on. The outside part looked okay, but I too found the prices to be a lot higher than last year. I did find some coral bells on a clearance table where you buy one and get one of equal or less price, free. I was particularly interested in the Miss Huff lantana but they were out. They did tell me they expected a shipment this week. I know...lantana is considered invasive in some areas, but I like it. I had some when I lived in Zone 8 and it was perennial, but not only did I have Miss Huff, I had (don't remember their given names) white and yellow that were perennial in that zone. The white is my favorite and Pike's had a good choice, but I became spoiled to it being a perennial and don't want to have to re-plant every year. I guess I'll have to settle for Miss Huff or resign myself to not having any at all! They did have a good selection of David Viburnum and I bought a couple of those, along with a few other shade-loving-flowering plants. Beverly
