I bought an HP All-in-one F380 about 3 years ago because my hubby needs to make copies and doesn't use a computer. Put the item under the glass, pick color or black, pick number of copies and press Start copy, and copies print out. It was $150 with a $50 mail in rebate and Staples had an immediate $50 rebate. Love it, and it does print wonderful pictures too. Ink is reasonable too, $18 and if you take the empty cartridges to Staples you get them for $15 each.

You didn't report what O/S you are using and at seven years it could be one of several. Be sure to read the system requirements on any item you are considering. I use to personally promote for various reasons individual peripherals rather than all-in-ones. However, now that the prices for AIOs are much more reasonable I only suggest them. Having two peripherals capable of printing is a great convenience too. I have my printer configured to Fast Draft Greyscale for all my general printing and my AIO configured for quality printing. The tandem saves ink and to switch between the two is quite easy. As a reminder, before you buy be aware of the cost for replacement ink cartridges. I have heard and read too many disappointments from users on that issue. DA

Followed this post with interest since I have wanted one of these scanners ever since I found out about them. On Jan 2, I purchased the one from HSN that scans both JPEG and PDF, after some research that model is only available at HSN. Anyway, I am pretty pleased with it. I scanned loose paper, page out of a book, a pattern (I sew), a page out of a magazine, and a photo. The scans to PDF are better than my old flat bed and much quicker. I have only done a couple of pictures and was not that happy with it, but my main focus was to scan my files and get rid of paper clutter. I think it will be perfect for that. There is a slight learning curve, for example start at the top not bottom of your page or the scan will be upside down. With a bit of practice, I was able to drag it at the proper speed and without movement to get a perfect scan. You can still read it but it has "waves" in it if you hesitate or wiggle the wand. Super easy to transfer to computer. No software involved. Just hook up with USB and it acts as a flash drive, review what you scanned, cut and paste to where you want it on your hard drive. Now if the product doesn't break down, I will be happy with my purchase. Hope this helps you if you are thinking about getting one of these scanners. Murphy

Alright, this probably a somewhat older scanner, so I bet it has a Motorola (almost banana)style antenna jack, meaning there only a hole in the back of your scanner, the antenna end has a tip and then a metal shield around it with a few little long springy tabs cut into it. Make sure nothing got into the hole in the back of thescanner, a little piece of foil, or maybe a broken tab from the antenna. Next make sure the outer matel shell with the springy tabs cut into it are not touching the tip. Outside of that, it could be a shorted antenna, as already posted. Or the receiver is history. It's pretty old. I you really like scanning, It may be time for a new scanner. I'm not going to recommend any here, but there are some very nice simple ones there, that have multiple modern antenna connections, PC programming, etc, etc, the sky is the limit. If what I mentioned above does not work, take the scanner to a good radio shop, they are VERY hard to find these days, but search for a HAM Radio store, they usually know their stuff. I'd bet they'd check out your set for free, and point you in the right direction. Sorry so long, but I'm a HAM, and a BIG scanner freak, I LOVE the older stuff and I like to tinker with it, but if you want to hear your stuff, go tslk to them. KEN
