VuPoint Solutions Magic Wand Portable Scanner

Does anyone have any info or opinions on this particular hand held scanner or any other brands?

Thought it might be useful to help get some order into all those articles that get cut out of magazines, etc. along with the recipes.

Yet am a bit worried that it sounds like it is too good to be true.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Is that the one they were selling on HSN last week? I would be curious about it too, it looked neat but wonder how well it works compared to my office jet all in one. Mry!

I just checked HSN and it was being sold there. I don't have cable. so wasn't aware that it was being sold their.

I sweat way too much but that's because it's hot and humid here. Stepping out into our sun is like walking into a blow torch. I've got to quit gardening between noon and 6PM, but I'm a night owl, too, and don't rise early. I remember last year I was on the west side of the house in the afternoon, and the heat was unbearable. (I get red in the face, too, and people get worried.) I went in the house, got several ice cubes, wrapped a dish towel around them longways, put the ice cubes at the back of my neck and pinned the towel pretty tight at the front of my neck. I was afraid I would suffocate with the cloth so high around my neck but no. It was wonderful. No sweating, no heat. I was perfectly comfortable even though I was out in the same hot sun. When the ice melted, I was sweating again. The ice must have been cooling the blood to my brain and elsewhere. At first it was too cold and then it wasn't. So glad for this thread. It'll be hot tomorrow, and I had forgotten this. I always thought female gardeners should look like Martha Stewart - and then there was me. I can't wear tank tops because I need the sleeves on the t-shirt to wipe my sweaty face since my hands are covered with latex-dipped gloves (typically manure coated) that add to the heat. (Talk about stink! Those gloves get really bad.) Sweating is bad, but muck under my fingernails is a horror! Gardening is a totally embarrassing experience since I live in-town with close neighbors and I garden in my front yard a lot. But I guess I'm past the embarrassment. My shirt is soaked. My shorts are soaked. It's disgusting. I drink GatorAde while I'm out there. I find that I recuperate faster than with plain water. It's been a joy reading the posts of all you sweaty ladies. Hoover, Panasonic and Eureka are all three highly designed and trustworthy vacuums? You have got to be kidding yourself. And the dirt finders are a joke whether it be the microphone or light sensor. And by the way, the Kirby Generation models do clean better than the older models, they have a better designed brushroll that has more aggressive agitation and they have better airflow as well. While I believe the Kirby is overpriced, it has way more airflow than the other vacuums you mentioned and will clean cirlcles around Filter Queen, Rainbow, Panasonic, etc! when it comes to vacuuming carpet. Having said that, it is terrible as a shampooer as all it does is brush soap into your carpet leaving a residue that attracts dirt. Those that use the Kirby shampooer regularly have tons of soap in their carpet which you will notice if you bring in a quality extractor because there will be tons of suds. It is also not a user friendly vacuum as it is hard for most to hook up the attachments. Also,the newer bags do hold dust better than the older single ply bags so they have improved in filtration as well. I wouldnt buy a Kirby new at the price they get for them and I would never use one to shampoo my carpet. But they do a great job of vacuuming carpet which is really all they were designed for in the first place. Shampooer and the other gadgets were added on to try and add value to the machine. And for those of you that didnt know it, Hoover is now owned by Dirt Devil so when you buy a Hoover these days, you are really buying a chinese made Dirt Devil with the Hoover name on it. At least the Kirby is American made

Solly, you linked to the teak shower base site. Those are nice too. Did you want to show the Neo Angle shower with dimensions? I like the teak wood bases and could do that for the guest room which we are now using as our main shower. The little shower seat is really nice and I might add something like that when we redo our shower. For the mat, you might have to cut around the stones and rework it somewhat. That one may not be intended to use inside the shower anyway. The mat I saw, the stones were glued on and easy to remove and move around. You could get bathtub mats and add the pebbles from a beach vacation or tile shop. We'd have to research the glue to see what works.

My love-hate relationship with paper is deep and I've been a sucker for magazines since I was a kid when the Saturday Evening Post and Life used to come in the mail . Finally, I've come to a reasonable (for me) solution. I have several categories of interest, gardening, cooking, travel, home remodeling/interior decorating. I've tried binders, plastic sleeves, upright magazine holders and have always wound up being annoyed at the cost, the weight, the time spent filing. I have determined to limit my clippings on any subject to one portable file box which makes it easy to take to a table or in bed or wherever. So the recipe file box has manila folders marked: breakfasts, drinks, salads, beef, Asian, Mexican, holiday meals etc. like a cookbook. I'll put a clipping in that category LOOSE. If I need to make, say, an appetizer, it's easy to find , I can also toss anything at any time, like when I decided I would get rid of the majority of high fat recipes. If the file box gets too full, I go through it and cull, I mean how many versions of bread pudding does one need?! My rule is no more than will fit. The home decor box has categories such as bedrooms, paint/refinishing, kitchens, bathrooms. The garden box has files on roses, succulents, pots, propagation, fertilizing, garden layout etc. I know much of the info is on the web, but the photos trigger my imagination. This is especially true of the files for travel. Regarding magazines like the New Yorker, I invariably fall behind on the reading, so I cut out and staple the fiction and keep them in an expansion file. When I know I'm going somewhere that will involve waiting, like the doctor's office I take one or two in my bag. When I go on a trip, I might take a couple dozen, read them in the airport or in a restaurant and when done, leave them for someone else. I know unsubscribing is sensible, and in the past I've done it, but eventually I renew. What can I say? It's a small vice.

I tried using a hand-scanner many years ago and was very dissatisfied with the results. The main problem for me seemed to be that a uniform speed while passing the scanner over the page was hard to achieve by hand. I find that the scanner in my Officejet 4500 works well enough for me.

It does look neat but I think I would still prefer my office jet. I have had a flat bed scanner for a lot of years and I guess it's just what I am used too. Might be good if I had to scan something out of a large book. I have never had a problem with products from HSN. Never had to return anything but I think they have very good customer service. Mary

Ok another forum I belong to for cross stitch someone got one and posted a sample scan and likes it but doesn't see her self using it all that much as she can do the same with her regular scanner. Mary

Acraftylady, thanks for posting with the above link. I did order the scanner and expect it to be delivered to me by Friday.

I read the link that you just posted as well, and interestingly enough, I will be using it with a MacBook Pro.

Am planning to give it a real work out over the weekend and into next week to see how well it works and how satisfied I am with it.

Will post and let all know how well it works.

I bought the magic wand scanner at sams club a while back. It works really good with some practice. It will never be as good as my flat bed but not a bad item. Would do it again if I needed a portable scanner.

Followed this post with interest since I have wanted one of these scanners ever since I found out about them. On Jan 2,
I purchased the one from HSN that scans both JPEG and PDF, after some research that model is only available at HSN. Anyway, I am pretty pleased with it. I scanned loose paper, page out of a book, a pattern (I sew), a page out of a magazine, and a photo. The scans to PDF are better than my old flat bed and much quicker. I have only done a couple of pictures and was not that happy with it, but my main focus was to scan my files and get rid of paper clutter. I think it will be perfect for that. There is a slight learning curve, for example start at the top not bottom of your page or the scan will be upside down. With a bit of practice, I was able to drag it at the proper speed and without movement to get a perfect scan. You can still read it but it has "waves" in it if you hesitate or wiggle the wand.
Super easy to transfer to computer. No software involved. Just hook up with USB and it acts as a flash drive, review what you scanned, cut and paste to where you want it on your hard drive.
Now if the product doesn't break down, I will be happy with my purchase.
Hope this helps you if you are thinking about getting one of these scanners.
