I know you are tired of seeing this but I was sure about my outer mat being crisp white (but not a stark white) and now some of my friends feel I should use the Linen Off-White mat that I used on the black framed picture. I just took some pictures to share but I am having problems downloading them since my Sony P150 camera's docking station is not compatible with Window 7 and I am trying to get the pictures off the memory card. I guess the camera I bought near the end of 2004 may need to be updated. It works so I was trying to get more use out of it as I have other priority expenses.

The advantage of using the same mats is that if ever you want to have both prints in the same room, they would work together. Really, both of them look good. It is difficult though to make such a subtle style choice without seeing them and the print IRL, in your room with your lighting. When I was selecting mats, I would notice I would like one better during the daytime, perhaps another at night so that is something to think about as well. Also, if you do not have enough to think about, the color of the background wall and whether it is a warm or cool color may help sway you towards one shade of white over the other. I suspect you cannot go wrong with either one. Good luck and can't wait to see them on your wall once your camera is working again.

Not sure if it is my monitor but I like the linen color better because my focus is drawn more to the picture and I see the details like the bridge. With the brighter white mat, I do not focus as much on the detail of the lovely pic because the white is bright and distracts my gaze at first. No matter what your wall color is, the white is going to take focus away from the pic more since the pic doesn't have white in it.
Just my very humble opinion, you will get to look at it everyday so go with what makes you happy.

So sorry there are 30 picture but I first was labeling them for myself and was going to reduce them to less pictures in a photo album to share with this wonderful decorating group of members but I am tired since it took so long to label the pictures. If they are too many, I will set up another link with only a few. Pictures are at night and daytime to compare the white mat with the linen textured (love the texture) off-white mat. Both look great in the day time but at night I think the linen mat is too creamy for the room but maybe I am wrong. I have not had a picture on the wall for 13.5 years since I moved into my townhouse. I am using the two pictures I have in the house to compare the mat color so it is not the greatest way to decide since the black framed picture has museum quality glass and the gold framed picture that I bought at an Estate sale and goes with nothing in my home has regular glass which I feel is too glaring in my family room. If you don't have time to look, you can click slide show or just glance around to choose a few pictures to look at since I labeled them all. I am about to order. I wanted to go with white but I wish it was textured.

Mellyc123, I love the linen off-white color in person close up so much and in the day time. At night in my family room it appears way too creamy. BUT new insight tonight. The linen off-white mat on the black frame in my home office appeared too creamy at night to me also sitting on the filing cabinet leaning against the BM Bone White creamy wall but now is perfect and is a nice soft white since it was hung on the wall today.

I am confused now what to do. Maybe all those pictures I took of the two white mats will differ once hung on the wall and not leaning on the top of the sofa. I will wait to see the opinions of others and then make my own decision and just do my best. I wish the white mat would be a suede or linen texture also like the off-white since the texture really is rich looking. But that is my fear also that since there is no white in the picture, maybe the white will be too much but I want a light mat to brighten up the wall at night since I have such poor lighting in the room.
