Jamie, you can make a nice surround using composite material and trim which is very easy to do nowadays and you have a large profile selection available, or you can use stucco mold just make sure they use finish for "traffic area" being this a doorway which is more durable... The con with stucco is if it gets damaged it's much harder to repair and match the color in comparison to replacing a piece of trim. Good luck with your new home!

I guess I do not know the difference in a seal and a threshold. tendrac - My carpenter is making a transition piece from floor to whatever it is called for both the front door, and all the French doors. The French doors do have a real wood whatever.😀 All doors are set up a little higher than we would like. Builder says he typically does that for an area rug to be able to sit underneath. We do have an antique area rug and thick padding for the entrance to the foyer. The French doors open out from the living area, so rug is not a problem. However, should we ever go wheelchair bound, we would have to put one of those portable ramps over the threshold to be able to maneuver those. BTW - I heard my builder tell the painter that our mahogany front door and porch railing wood is Sapele. When I questioned him, he was surprised that I had heard the term. I replied that a friend on Houzz had Sapele wood doors, etc..

Go to a real lumber yard in your area and find out who they buy their mouldings from. That will be the first place you look. My local lumberyard uses Garden State Millworks, if I cross the border to South Carolina (which I can see from downtown) I get a whole other selection.
