Seeking help for Kraftmaid Sonora Cherry finishes

We've decided on Kraftmaid Sonora, cherry wood, and thought we loved the Honey Spice... but, after getting it home, it definitely looks like it has golden tones. When the cherry ages, will this be as apparent?

We are replacing our old golden oak, and are looking for something different.

We are also considering Autumn Blush and Sunset. We were going to take the door tomorrow to look for granite, but now I wonder if we shouldn't really consider the other two finishes.

Any Kraftmaid people out there with any advice? Darn, I thought we had it nailed. Now I'm not so sure.

We have Kraftmaid Ginger Glaze on Cherry and I love it - if you are iffy, my suggestion is to get who ever you are looking at or HD/Lowes to order you a small drawer front in the style/colors you are considering - they are good as then you can see it in your home and for other shopping - I hoped to keep ours as an extra but I dropped it granite shopping - oops (glad it wasn't a real one).

If you regret anything, it will be using a the factory pre-finished boards. Site finished looks way more natural and beautiful. The seams are nearly invisible. Factory finished solid wood loses the character of solid wood. It looks just like a plastic laminate. Site finished flooring is easy to repair scratches, factory finished is impossible to repair without doing a total sand down and refinish. Then you are back to having a site-finished floor. You just spent the extra money on an unattractive finish that has to be removed to get back to the real wood. And why are you buying solid wood flooring in the first place? The point of solid wood is that you can sand it down and refinish it to its original natural beauty. If you want pre-finished floors, get a quality veneered or laminate product. If you want the ability to sand and refinish, just go with bare wood from the start. Cherry, Walnut, and Maple all make beautiful floors. They are beautiful woods. Hard maple will be the most durable.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately my cabinets are maple so they do look different then the cherry cognac, I think they have less red in them but I am so anxious to see them in a kitchen, they're getting here in 1 week so I guess I'll just have to wait but I'll definitly post finished kitchen pics.

Need help w/cabinet decision: Kraftmaid or Custom

We went the custom route in our kitchen and we have NO regrets. We were able to talk it through with our guy and create the size WE needed, depths of the cabinets not standard because he could do what we want. As to the finish, ours used a clearcoat conversion finish, which as I understand is the industry standard. He buys his doors and drawer fronts from a mill that only sells to contractors and they are excellent quality. We were working with red birch and my husband had certain things he did not want in the grain pattern, so our contractor gave the mill his requirements and told them he'd send any doors back that didn't meet the criteria. Will Kraftmaid do that for you? I would suggest you look at my link to my nearly finished kitchen to see pix of most of the following: 1. microwave wall entirely custom 2. See the deep drawer with the Dutch oven and large metal strainer/bowl? It is 23" long. I had the space and didn't want to waste it. 2. All top drawers are a 5" deep box because I hate super shallow ones. 3. I have a split front drawer for my silverware, the top part being a separate cutting board. (Most places have a cutting board that can't be opened solo. It's nested inside the drawer). And that couldn't have been done with a typical drawer box either. Moneywise, I didn't like the entry-level stove anyway, so we kept our old one. When the time comes, hopefully I will have rebounded from the kitchen costs and buy a better one than the entry-level models. Had we been short another $1200, we would have held off on buying the fridge and stayed with our contractor. Another money question: How does Kraftmaid handle change-orders and the pricing for that? I realized after our cabinets came that one of them was not what I'd expected at all. It was my fault, really. So we decided to do a change order and eat the cost. Our cabinetmaker wanted us to be happy and went above and beyond in getting the change done and being beyond fair in what he charged us for it. Thanks! We're getting close to being done. I'll be so happy when I can post finished kitchen pics! The countertops are not the 180 line, just the radiance fx. I have been very happy with them. They are very easy to keep clean. Love them! Of course, I lived with bright yellow, 30 year old Formica for 7 years so these are a dream compared to them!

i may be able to help. i have a honey spice cherry KM cab in my garage that is about 2 years old. it has a golden tone to it, but lots of orangey red also. the reason it is there? hubby wanted that color, but we were never able to find more of them at the outlet. so we ended up with autumn blush instead (and that extra honey spice cab). we like ABCherry very much...there is a brownness to it. kaffe and black glaze KM cherry are also very pretty i think (and the ginger glaze above). originally we wanted honey spice or KM sunset cherry, but when i saw 4 or 5 sunset cherry cabs in a row, i realized i wanted something less orange...HTH kren

Kren, thanks for your post...it really did help. We're now debating between natural cherry and autum blush....we've looked at so much stuff today I have major burn out. Came home with a sample of verde peacock light...looked lovely in the yard...not sure if it is the one. Going to give it a rest and do something mindless. I'm fried.

Order two sample doors if you are down to two.. they look so different at home during different times of the day... it really is worth every penny. It took me about a year to decide... we initially started with Kraftmaid white laminate and I couldn't do it... then we wanted dark as I love dark wood... then we played the guessing game for months and finally found ours. I'd wait to fully decide the granite till the cabinets are installed - I thought I wanted Silesstone from the small sample. We installed the cabinets, I got ahold of a 12x12 tile... oops, not for me and I then turned to granite and went on the great granite search.
