Cedar swing post deteriorated at bottom

After a summer of constant rain in our usually dry climate in this part of Texas our 20 year old cedar swing set showed some signs of aging with a little bit of rot on the seat.

After replacing some of the boards of the seat I decided to apply a thick coat of varnish to preserve it, but we don't know what to do with the bottom of the posts that rest on a concrete paving stone. However the pavers had accumulated some dirt that touches the post.

Hubby wants to saw off a couple of inches, seal the bottom of the post with some sort of filler and make a metal shoe on the bottom. I thought just perhaps raising the level of the paver and and setting the post back as it was would be okay as it would let any rain water drain away allowing the bottom of the post to dry out quickly.

I've heard it said that a cedar post will rot quicker if set in cement than in dirt as the cement would hold water. Perhaps the metal shoe would do the same.

Does anyone here have some experience or advice on this?
