HI dancing girl ! Alot has happened since I purchased my pe scan! 2 new embroidery machines 1 old version of Disney then a new version of brother embroidery machine ....I haven used my pe scan but once! I tryed using it yesterday. ....it no longer works! Tryed looking it up on brother website but there is no such item must be so outdated! I took it apart today and fuse is black I need a new fuse ! But I don't know what kind of fuse it is! Brother is closed on Sunday :(. Maybe you know someone with this information the rest of the machine is pristine! But the fuse! ...I JUST ORDER THE BROTHER SCAN N CUT LAST WEEK! I'm so excited I'm wondering if I need this machine anymore now that I have the scan and cut I might be able just to transfer to pe design after I scan on cut n scan or I can just transfer it to my machine after that it sounds complicated to me so if I have to but a new one I might just get the flip pro scanner for brother I found one for 135.oo. so I have to wait till next month unless the cut n scan works?? If anyone knows anything about the only fuse that's inside the pe scan let me know ! I like to use this for lace if I can fix it! Thank you so much!! Dancing girl! !

I usually hang out in Kitchens but just popped in here to find this. Interesting discussion. Personally, I think the author is a selfish witch to want to burden her children with all this. I'm on year 5 of attempting to curate the possessions my parents left me, determine what has sentimental value and actual value, which things to keep forever to pass down to my children (with their input of what they would want), and sell or donate the rest. My house is not my own due to all the boxes. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. It is taking me forever because it's emotionally overwhelming and the sheer huge number of items takes time. And all this is after two garage sales of all the items that were clearly not sentimental or valuable. And two family work days in which they have already taken the items they want or have room for now. As I go through these items, I'm photographing items and scanning photos/letters/documents with the idea of creating photo books full of the photos and family stories/history. I will leave these for my children. I am also trying to value items that I intend to keep and will leave my children a notebook with photos of the items so they know as much as possible about the specifics of the item (value, date/country of origin, history of why it's in the family, etc.). This will make it easier for them to make decisions when the time comes. My mom would periodically tell me these things but even though I requested she write it all down numerous times, she never did. I'm not sure how accurate my memory is so I'm struggling to do the best I can on this but it would have been so much more accurate had she done it herself. Due to having to deal with this mess, again, i would never burden my children with this. I bought my parent's home. I have the luxury of time and space to do this. It is highly likely my children won't. Neither live locally. My son works overseas and will likely remain an expatriate. They will probably need to make quick decisions that would result in the loss of family history if I don't get this done. In the end, my goal is to leave them with several different printed photobooks with as much family history and stories as I can gather and include. These will likely be divided into: maternal history from great-great grandparents to when my mom married my dad fraternal history from great-grandparents to when he married my mom my parents life together my life before marrying my husband my husband's life before he married me our life together up to the point where I actually complete this project and create the book I have also gathered up and organized all the school papers, art projects, and such I kept from their childhoods and will create a book of photos and stories about them from birth to high school graduation. I'm doing this more for their children's enjoyment (if either ever have any) than for their own but I'm sure they will enjoy that, too. Once these are done, I'll print three copies, one for each of my kids and one for me. I will also gift my nieces the books about their grandparents. My goal is that they will simply need to look in the book listing the items in the house to determine what they want to keep (and then they'll know everything possible about the item), and be able to make quicker decisions about what's worth trying to sell to collectors or eBay or whatever, what is garage sale, and what items should really be donated to a couple of our local museums. If they're not in a position to keep any or most of the actual items themselves, they'll have the books. That's the most important thing to me anyway. It's not the items themselves but, rather, the family stories and history behind them. I just hope I live long enough to complete these projects! So very time consuming.

I just discovered that I can scan a document with my smartphone. I realize that to some (most?) of you here this may be so “old news”, and thank goodness for that. You're the ones that help the rest of us out when we have problems. This post is for those, like me, who come here daily just to see what we can learn. New volunteer duties require that I scan weekly into GoogleDrive. My printer simply prints – doesn't scan or copy – so I've been researching 3-in-1 devices to give me scan abilities. Somewhere in that search a comment was made about scanning with a smartphone. That redirected my efforts and I headed to Google Play. I downloaded Tiny Scanner, took a picture of a test letter-sized document, and shared it to myself at GoogleDrive on the desktop. Scanner problem solved! There are other free scan apps available besides Tiny Scanner. In my “vast” 3 hour experience of being a user, it's working just fine for me.

I read it and got teary eyed...over something I've never seen, will never experience and honestly wonder if it is just the stuff of fiction. (Guess I'm a cynical realist like gyr) My maternal grandparents died before I was ever born. My mom was raised by her oldest sister who always treated her "real" grandchildren better than she did me or my brother. As an adult, from her perspective I understand. She took in her sister when she (my mom) was 11. She "raised" her but it was always her sister, not her daughter. We were her niece and nephew and, while she cared for us, she wouldn't take off work and save up vacation time to travel half way around the world to see us but she did it frequently for her grandchildren who were living in Germany at the time. As a child, it just hurt because she was the only Grannie I knew and it was obvious that she favored them over us. She tried to make up for it by spoiling us when we were with her. Shopping trips, new clothes, treats, etc. I always liked getting new things (what kid doesn't?) but I remember, even at 10 years old, asking my mom why Grannie wouldn't be here for my school play. My paternal grandparents retired when I was 4 and spent their retirement years traveling. They were "home" for Christmas where they lavished gifts on us grandkids but they were never there; I had no real relationship with them until my grandmother was dying and they couldn't travel anymore. I find it hard not to judge them. I really do feel that everyone should be free to live their life the way they want to. But at the same time, I look at my kids and think about when they have kids and I can't imagine anything in my life being more important than being involved in their lives and watching them grow. I guess I'm just a family oriented person. I have no qualms with my MIL. She is a nice person who tries to spoil my kids but...much like my own grandparents, she is never there. It feels more like all the spoiling and gifts is an attempt to "buy" love. I'm not jealous of her or her gifts, even when they are nicer than mine. She doesn't know my kids. She has to ask me what they are interested in for gift ideas and she only lives 15 minutes away. She is more interested in living her life and doing the "obligatory" grandma thing when it is expected. I guess my (and my husbands) lack of what I would consider "true grandparents" is what spurred us to live next door to my parents. My kids are extremely close to Nana and Papa. They have everything I always wished I had. Knowing my luck they will grow up feeling smothered by all the familial closeness and do a complete 180. Isn't that what kids do? ;)
